Even the voltage can be a little off. It'll just make the voltage regulator work a little harder/hotter. Just don't get the polarity backwards.

Or a 99 cent spring-loaded vacuum. Press plunger until it locks, place silicone nozzle near liquid solder, press release trigger. Zoop, most of the solder is sucked up and solidified. Press plunger to eject it and reset the vacuum.

TIN WIRE BEFORE SOLDERING IT, ESPECIALLY IF IT'S BRAIDED.

Alright, if you have a legitimate version of XP Pro, and you're still getting BS, "acquire" another vanilla version of XP Pro. No modified versions, just plain jane. While it's entirely unlikely, your original copy may be damaged, so reacquiring it may work. Troubleshooting software is a royal PITA ...
