they are just aluminum blocks with maybe six holes drilled in them, they aren't finned or anything. not to mention the 1/8" thick layer of transfer glue on them (whoops, i did )

that green foam that you get at the floral or fabric dept at walmart would be easy to make a mold out of, then cover it in aluminum foil before suckage. a dremel or the tools schools use for working with clay (these scraper looking things) would be easiest for making the mold

removing it won't make it not work?
