LED replacement

what if someone replaced the LED, whould it change anything but the color?

Not if the LED uses the same voltage and current as the old one. (one time I replaced a 12V DC led with a 120V AC, all you-know-what broke loose.) And of course, it won't work if the polarity is reversed.

what if i shorted it out wire some wire? i'm gonna use the battery pack that ben used on the PS2P since it's li-ion, has a charger, and is most likely regulated (also 5400mAh for ~$50 isn't bad either).

.:EDIT:. i mentioned it because the battery pack has that charge indicator thingy, so the LED on the N64 is a waste of power

Remove it and short the connections it connected to, so juice still goes where it has to.
