My guess is that it's the white circle that has a magnet in it. If it is i could sell you one i have enough PlayStation 2 parts to make 20 PS2s. Cheers^_^

That's exactly what it is. I didn't realize that the little plastic disc had a magnet in it. I popped the plastic out and then the "magnet ...

have you tried older cd based ps2 games?
Any chance you could give me an example of one? I was under the impression that even the ones that didn't use the DVD features were printed on the same stock of discs.

Also, if the laser does need adjustment, do you know of any info on the net that might ...

Trying to fix a PS2

So, I was given a busted PS2 Fatboy to play with. They had already replaced it but since they know me, they didn't throw it out. (Love having friends like this. ;))

Anyway, I took it apart and gave it a clean-up (dirt and hair [ugh!] in the disc tray mechanism was jamming everything up) and it will ...

Wiivolution

The first stage of Wiivolution has begun. I decided there weren't enough mods done to the Nintendo Wii (probably because they're so difficult to lay hands on), so I took it upon myself to give mine an overhaul, starting with a paintjob. There's a more detailed write-up over at my site, but here's ...

Is it the CD you used to originally install the Operating System? I managed to convince myself that my system was hosed but the truth of the matter ended up being that the disc wasn't set to auto-run. I don't know how that happens, but it wouldn't boot in other systems as well.

I ended up burning a ...

Just about any Weller iron will do a good job, get one with a wattage ratnig from 25-40 watts. 15 is just not enough.
The one I have is actually 30 watts, the price was $15, and it's been pretty good so far. However, I think I messed it up not knowing what I'm doing. I don't think I tinned the tip ...

Soldering Iron Recommendations?

So, I've exhausted my search capabilities and can't seem to find anyone suggesting a particular type (or even brand) of Soldering Iron. I have a $15 RadioShack iron (that isn't even grounded, god help me) but I want to move onto something more versatile and worthwhile, and will last longer than a ...

Would just putting a couple of 1019s in the slots and just leaving them there be the best option then? Considering I don't ever plan on planning Madden or any of the big-file sports games on it, I'm sure it'd be everything I'd need. I just though throwing a couple GB card of some sort at it to ...

GameCube Save Storage

So, I've searched in a bunch of different ways and can't find any sort of answer to this question. I am working on the specs for a GameCube mod and I want to set it up so that it will have lots of space for storing games, but no accessible port for cards.

Basically, I want an internal drive for the ...

Thanks very much guys. I'm going to keep plugging away at the NESp, but I think I will also spring for either a SNES or PSOne to start on as well at the same time. So I can switch back and forth if my interest starts to flag. I have an original Playstation (the big old school one) but I'm not yet ...

"Easiest" to build?

So, I recently purchased Ben's book and have read through it a couple of times to get up-to-speed (relatively) on the tools and techniques. The NESp is the first project in the book and I have an extra NES that I had laying around, so I decided to give it a shot. So, I've desoldered the power plug ...
