But really, is there actually any simple guide that tells you how to go about making some sort of charger where it switches off by itself when it finishes charging via USB?

bumping this topic. Can't I just wire from the +5v of the USB to the rechargable battery instead or is it just a disaster waiting to happen?

Still confused about NES PCB....

I'm now working on a second version of a NES MP3 player. My first version controlled the MP3 play/pause etc via tactile switches but I'm trying to go for a more authentic approach and use the original PCB that came with the NES controller. Well, I bought the MP3 player. Quite cheap from where I bought it. I gutted it and the innards are still working. Anyways, the buttons on the sides which operate the stuff like play, forward etc look like this:
