Nah, what you do is take a ribbon cable, anything with 50 or more pins, and connect the female end to the bottom of the cart slot controller(the thing the cartridge plugs into on the motherboard) then you take the dual headers, and plug them into the motherboard where the cartridge controller went ...

So I'm using a portable DVD player screen, will I ever notice a huge difference between the 2, or should I just stick with the RCA? I'm happy with the way RCA looks, but will it be worth it to try and RGB mod this thing is pretty much what I am asking.

RGB vs RCA

OK, i've been reading the forums for a little while now, and I'm working on a Port-a-64, but i have a question. What is the big deal with RGB? The screen I am using, is a portable DVD player screen with build in RCA jacks, so i can connect it directly to the default N64 Video/Audio out.

Personally ...

GBA Linker Card

Whats to say that i couldn't take a GBA, gut it, give it a larger screen, longer battery life, and use the Flash linker cards to put a lot of games on one cart?
Would be kind of redundant to make a portable portable, but maybe the bigger screen, and longer battery life, plug more games would be ...

have you tried checking where the video out is connected. See if its loose. Or if the case is already apart, look at where it connects, maybe its dirty. Apart from that, i dont know what it could be. Could be fried. $5 is a good deal, but its not too much of a setback if its fried. Good luck with it.

technically, you caould make it solder free, but only the cartridge part, you would still have to solder the power connectors and such, unless you could figure out a way around that.
