n64 green screen.

Post by jeffslot »

I was so psyched having picked up a $5 n64 at a yard sale today. However, I can only get it to show a green screen. It is the same green screen wether there is a cart in there or not. Anyone have any ideas if this is fixible? Thanks.

have you tried checking where the video out is connected. See if its loose. Or if the case is already apart, look at where it connects, maybe its dirty. Apart from that, i dont know what it could be. Could be fried. $5 is a good deal, but its not too much of a setback if its fried. Good luck with it.

is there an expansion pack in it? take it out, put it back in (or - even better - put in a jumper pack) turn it on and off, then put a game in and see what happens.

No, no expansion pack. It did have a jumper pack. I tried taking it (jumper pack) out, then turning it off & on (Green Screen), then putting a cart in & turning it off & on again (same green screen). Tomorrow, I guess I'll see if I can find another jumper pack?

I doubt that the jumper pak's the problem. Seems more of a GPU problem? Then again, I've never gotten a green screen...

I know what it could be!

Open it up and check the chroma encoder chip (the one you're supposed to get RGB signals off of). Chances are, either the chip is no good, or some of the pins are no longer making good contact with the board.
