Replacing pots with resistors?

Is there any kind of guide as far as how best to determine what value resistor to use when removing a pot? Should you go by the minimum or max value of the pot or perhaps try to determine a middle value?

Is this a pot that you adjust regularly or leave at a single setting? If it's one that you don't adjust often, then just measure what value you need with a multimeter.

Also, if you are planning on doing this, make sure that you remove the pot from the pcb/project board/whatever first before measuring the resistance. You can't get an accurate measurement on it while it's in the circuit.

But we really shouldn't be mentioning pot unless we want this thread locked.

If its a volume pot you will need two resistors. Wiki how a pot works inside.
