Open the door on the front, slide the cartridge in connecter-end forst and lavbel side up, then push it down and the cartridge assembly will clikc into place.
what does a blinking red light mean?
It means there's a general error reading the cartridge. Clean the cartridge and the connector inside the NES with rubbing alcohol. (Open the NES to clean it easier). If that doesn't work, take a safety pin and carefully bend up the pins on the cart connector. You will need to open the NES to do this (duh). If that doesn't work, search benheck.com for Ben's "super" NES mod to find out how to disable the lockout chip, which can sometimes cause this problem. There's also information on fiing up the cart slot in the book.

It's gonna blink if there's no cartridge in it (which I bet is the case, especially after seeing your last question...)
The power cord ends in two wires...one plugs into nes the other doesnt.
What do i do?
The power adapter that plugs into the wall, or the small grey box? There should only be one plug on the end of the power adapter if it is an original Nintendo unit. Post a picture.

I've taken apart a few NES's (2 to be exact) and if you screw some of the screws on too tight, it doesn't allow you to put the cartridge in properly, or in some cases, at all. If you bought it used this could very well be the case. Take it apart and unscrew everything around the cartridge-ish area and try to put a game in.

Ya, I just put my NES together after i pushed the pins on the connector more tightly together. It's a bit tricky to get the cartridge to lock when you push it down, but for now it's working for me pretty good.

The carts don't push in properly b/c the front center screw is to tight, or the black thing is not on properly. I should know I have fixed 13 NESs.

A trick you can do is get some realy fine sand paper and put it in the cart slot a few times and it works perfect, but it may cause damage to your games over a LONG period of time and not by very much.
