Interesting...I'm running off an ATI Sapphire Radeon 256mb video card, 2.0GB or DDR RAM PC3200 400mhz, and a P4 2.8Ghz Processor...the game runs fine for me...oh well
The cheapest I've ran that game off of was a Celeron 2.0 Processer, 512mb ram and 128mb video card. Terrible playing Doom 3 (lagged a lot but took the fun away from the zombies jumpping out) but HL2 ran "okay" i would say. The celeron was what killed me...that and the fact it was an HP machine.

I dont think Celeron were ever good for things like gaming. That class only has a 256kB L2 cache. Having atleast a 512kB L2 is best.
Now Via's C3 is a clone/compatible version of the PIII. Its not bad but if you want to run modern games a P4 1.0GHz would be best, you'll need the extra power for the advanced game physics and videos (like Mpeg2).
As for the graphics cards.... 32 or 64MB? Come-on do those cards even support 3D acceleration or redering? I think a 128MB is bare minimum, and I havent played any really new game somthing like the card I have (Radion 9200) should handle it at lowend setup.

Definatly PCI-E unless you cant afford a card for it, then you should get something in AGP might i suggest a BFG Nvidia Ge-force FX 5500 OC AGP 8Xtotokan wrote:I'd say pci express lite. currently i'm running a sad 16 mb card... slower then the card in my dads 733 mhz machine...
it's not to expensive, like 100 bucks at wal mart(ME NO LIKE WAL MART FOR ELECTRONICS!) but newegg or ebay would have it for less. I have a lot of upgrading to do to my compy. im gettin a new mother board and stuff, with PCI-E and a geforce 6600GT
heck I have a 32 mb AGP8x gfx card in my old computer that runs Halo just fine, its a pretty punishing game to a gfx card.Sparkfist wrote:As for the graphics cards.... 32 or 64MB? I'm just having 3vil flashbacks (Everquest II TRYING to run on FX5200 32MB)
Heck, even 8MB cards support 3D acceleration and rendering! Video memory has comparatively little to do with performance. If you gave a Radeon 9800 only 64MB, it would still obliterate a 256MB Radeon 9600.
Raise your hand if you just bought all the components for a decent gaming PC for only 224 dollars off newegg!!!

it should, but HL2 it was designed for ati cards so it might not perform as well as it could. I HATE ATI CARDS!!! I had an ati card that went out for no good reason within the first 3 months of having it, and i have a friend who had an ati card that went out within the first year that he had it. I have an old compy that we have had for 5 years and it's got an Nvidia TNT2 32mb card in it that has been nothing but good to us. (by the way thats not the computer i use, i have a brand one year old new one) ok maybe its not brand new but it's good.
