How would I enable 2 player support? Originally I was going to remove the controller board completely and solder only a player one controller to the board, but now i realized i have room for the control board. What i want to do is to have both controller ports open with an override type switch for the p1 slot. I know I would have to add switches to both ports (p1 internal control, external control and p2 on/off) but where whould these switches go?

Should i solder the onboard controller to the back of the control board or do i rewire the ribbon cable and solder the controller there?

Anyways, why do you want to turn p2 port off in the first place? you could just skip the switch and it'd work fine.
gannon didnt you do something like this on your site by adding a small spst switch in the port so when a controller was inserted it would disable the internal controller

i think if you put it between the internal controllers ground it would work
yeah, I cut a hole in the side of the controller slot and glued a lever switch in place. works good (even if I have the wiggle the controller a bit sometime)
Yes this is a version 1 mobo (offboard sound, fried my version 2, not mini just onboard sound). So I only have to put a switch between ground of the player 1 slot? And would I just solder the internal controller wires to the back of the control board pcb? If I did that the switch in the ground would automatically allow the passthrough of an extrenal controller, right? The reason I wanted to switch the p2 slot on/off is to extend battery life (on second thought with no controller in the port 5v would not be drawn correct?). Oh well Im skipping p2 switch. If i finish it would I be the first person to build an snesp with version 1? I think so
I removed the controller ports and used a ribbon cable to relocate it. I then soldered my homemade 2 chip controller directly to the port pins. It works great, and I don't know why, but when I plug a real controller in it overrides this one, no override switch needed. Here is a pic
