Canon Digital Cameras Are Crap!

Apparently over time they will build up junk in the lense and it will show an error message on the screen saying "E18". Then all it will do is turn on for a couple seconds, display "E18" and shut off (with the lens still out!).

Now I have to open it up, open the lense, clean it out and hope it works when I turn it on.

That's the only solution I have found so far, if anybody has any other ideas, please post them. I'm goin nuts here cause I REALLY don't want to open it up, I saw a pic of the insides and it's messy in there!

ARGHHHH!!!! I hate crappy electronics!

maybe you didn't spend enough on your canon. all companies sell cheap cameras. I bet canon's cheapies aren't even made by canon--most big name cheap cameras are actually made by somebody else.

Yeah I tried tech support. They said I could get it repaired for $150

It's not a cheapo camera either. At the time my dad bought it, it was the best you could get. It's a 3.2 mgp, not that great anymore, but it gets the job done. It cost around $300 and we only had it for 2-3 years, so you can see why I'm pissed off at cannon. We took good care of it too, carried it in a case and everything!

Anyways, I already ripped it apart. If I can get it back together it will be a miracle

So now you all have fair warning, if you buy a cannon camera, this could be you!

I got stuck with a 115 dollar, 2.1mp Canon. My mother bid on that and a 2.1mp Nikon (which is alright). Thinking she'd lose both (they had like 10 minutes left each), she ended up winning both, and I got stuck paying fr the Canon, which takes 4 AAs and gets horrible battery life (maybe half an hour if im lucky, more with the screen off, which then just defeats the point of having a digital camera).

LMFAO! I was reading that, and when I read Nikon, I looked at my TV and they had a commercial for Nicon cameras! That happens to me a lot! Freaky! The commercial was for $1500 camera though, so yours' sound cheap! I just used a lot of exclamation marks!

I have a sony mavica. Even though it's big and isn't the best quality it's a beast and is pretty hard to break

I also have a cheapo 3mp camera, but it takes fuzzy pics after I only dropped it once (dropped the mavica plenty of times, still fine

)

I was going to get a nice 450 dollar 5mp nikon back in march (200 dollar mail in rebate) but was at a loss for 450 dollars.

2-3 years isn't a bad lifespan for a point-and-shoot digi--or anything else electronic for that matter. Think about it, how well do your cell phones, pdas, even PCs hold up after three years? Generally they'll come across problems requiring massive repair or replacement.

even the big digitals have a rated life and will require regular cleaning of the CCD/CMOS. Of course you can expect to pay far more for service then.

It also sounds like your lens grew some mold (usually white or gray). Unfortunately, there's no way to clean it economically. Prevention is the only way, but even stored in a case, and in a dry area it still sometimes hits.

Ebay hint: there's no such thing as "a little bit of mold" on a lens.

Uh, computer last more than 3 year. Mind you if you dont buy quality parts. They will become outdated before they need repair. But my computer work s perfectly and I got it 2 summers ago.

Ours is a 4.5MP Cannon (A80 I think.) We've had it for quite a while now with no problems.

/me hopes I didn't jinx myself.

3.2MP is fine, it's the minimum resolution for lab-quality 8x10 prints.

It sure beats the school camera- a 1MP Home Shopping Channel, cheap-China-import Sweatshop Special. One of the teachers brought it home with them on the week before school ended, and it got stolen out of their car at the mall. LMAO.

oh i have a Canon AE-1 slr from waaaaaaaayyyyy back. Like futher than the wayback machine, and it works great still. This camera is from the 70's and it works like new. Problem? The new age. Digital can eat balls. Not only in picture quality, but by the fact that most if not all pictures from digital cameras look like snapshots, even if you set them up for a quality shot. they suck for photographs. But they arent bad for snapshots. Every brand will decline in quality from the digital age on, and that (imo) is fact.

so you're out of luck bucko. use that 150 on repair for even a new slr...(make sure it isnt automatic advance, then it'll cost a female of the dog species to repair it) haha
