Looks like I'm talking about the Sega CD a lot today. I too an going to say its underrated. Though it go the short end of the stick as it was released before the SDK for developers. But you can over look that with what it could do. As SegaSonicFan said it had the ability to reder polygons, thats amazing as almost no 16bit system did that. It also could do full motion video, and I dont care if it was at a 420x230 or smaller resolution thats cool. Hell thats what made Sewer Sharks awsome and made it possible to have Willie Beamish.

DVD's were out in Japan in 1996, North America 1997. They were international before the Dreamcast.

#1: Sega Genesis. People complain it didn't have enough RPG's. Well, a lot of other people didn't care! (Myself included) It DID have a ton of good sports titles and lots of stuff not found on other systems. (Sonic, EA, arcade ports) Looking back now it's like the bastard system that time forgot, but I won't! Mine's still hooked up! Maybe I'm biased, I don't know.

#2: N64. For my money this kicks the crap outta the PSone. The draw distances were very impressive (compared to the, what looked like, 10 foot draw distance on the PSone) and it had texture smoothing and all that jazz. Plus the controllers gave a rebirth to analog, not since seen the Atari 5200. Also cartridges had a great feature - NO LOAD TIMES! Yahoo!

#3: Sega CD-ROM. Again with the Sega! Ok it had a lot of crap games, mostly made by Digital Pictures. But even those I enjoyed, on the same level I enjoy crappy 50's horror flicks. Then of course you had your RPG's in spades, mostly the conversions done by Crystal Dynamics. Y's, Lunar, all classics. Plus some not-bad games like Sonic CD as well. A niche system, but in the grand scheme of things not really a failure either. Over the past decade I've probably played Sega CD more than I will ever want to admit. (Or maybe I just did)
Hmm... Sega Genesis have Shining Force and Phantasy Star, would that shut up people about not enough RPGs? I also totally agree with N64, some games didn't exactly push it to the limits (Tony Hawks Pro Skater 2 & ECW Hardcore Revolution), and a lack of CD Quality Audio might of been a flaw too, but some games were amazing, Super Mario 64, Legend Of Zelda OOT, WWF No Mercy, Mario Kart 64...

The Dreamcast was underrated, it had some good games, as well as Sega 32X which had some really good games and some really crap ones, Sega CD was underrated, Gamecube is underrated and Game Gear is.

Anything by SErvice GAmes is and was underrated. It is by far my favorite game company, though I do not have a Genesis hooked up I do own 5 Model Is and 4 Model IIs, two Nomads, and 1 Model III boxed. This post ain't about the crap we own so I get back to the most underrated systems, I just said what I had so you wouldn't think I was a traitor to SEGA for not having a Genny.

I got a Dreamcast hooked up and a Saturn.

I really don't think that the Genesis was as underrated as the other SErvice GAmes systems, I mean it did have its life span shortened by Nintendo, but it didn't get crushed to pieces like the Saturn did from the Playstation craze.

My top five underrated SErvice GAmes systems:

Genesis
Dreamcast
Nomad (Technically a Genesis, but still yet underrated a hell of a lot more)
32X ( if it actually was a system )
Saturn

I hate the Gamecube; I think it should be underrated because of its awful design characteristics. It looks like a toddler's puzzle box, and don't even get me started on the controller. The games are fair, but the system lacks the ability to play DVD, and is not backwards compatible. If I were to make a system and really wanted to get people to buy it make it to where it could also play the last set of games that I came out with. I know the N64 and the Gamecube are a world apart but they could have designed the "cube" to incorporate the 64's processor and integrated just as easily as they could come up with a new slue of Gameboy games.

I personally don't think that anything by Nintendo is underrated because they controlled the market for so many years; I hope they fall out of the market and stick to their handhelds.

I wish that SErvice GAmes would come back; I wish the dreamcast had, had a better life span.

Nomad - the kewl factor... i mean, if you saw the nomad at the time, it was like falling into a vat of chocolate...

N64 - the first console i actually owned, i hadnt shelled out prior. no load times, and often reffered to as inferior to the PS1, it seemed to look prettier to me than the PS, but i mean, my vision isnt that great any way. but really, DK64, golden eye, mario 64, smash bros., mario kart, perfect dark, mario party, mario party 3... the list goes on, shure the PS may have had allota good games, but did they have games AS good as this? no...
