Can PSOne do S-Video?

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Can PSOne do S-Video?

Post by Foxx373 »

Is there any way a PSOne Screen can do S-Video at all? And are there different types of S-Video for different regions, like NTSC and PAL?

My laptop does S-Video, and when I tie Luma and Chroma together it becomes NTSC Composite.

AFAIK, the psone screen does not have inputs for s-video...
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Then tie the Luma and Chroma together and make the composite signal the PSone understands.

But why would you want to use a 5" screen on a (probably) 15" laptop? :?

No. Yes, S-Video is not the same for NTSC and PAL. RGB is the only thing that's 'universal'. If peppers is right, and you want to display a PAL device on the PSOne screen, the easist way is to connect it to the RGB input (PSOne port), as most PAL devices output RGB.

My laptop is a 17 inch widescreen. I cant always have the screen flipped up and still be able to do "stuff". But thats not what im using it for. *O* is trying to get his hands on a screen for a reasonable price for his N64p, but gettig a PAL version isnt easy for him. He cant do an RGB mod either. Since i know a bit about electronics and crap, Im trying to figure out some way he can use an NTSC screen.

I have been using my laptop as a video source, since its the easiet thing I can change video formats with, besideds my Lab computers, but its a pain to get behind my computer desk.

If he's good with a soldering iron, he could modify the N64 to output RGB: http://www.gamesx.com/rgbadd/n64rgb.htm

Other than that, he could get a PAL to RGB converter, or maybe the decoder chip(s) in the PSOne is switchable between formats (new oscilator + jumper settings).

Thats what I was thinking (about the Oscilatore idea). I dont know if he can solder that well. Also, isnt there something about the PAL N64s not being able to do RGB? Some peole said that the PALs are locked out of RGB mode.
