Int/Ext display switch NOW INTERESTING (almost)

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Int/Ext display switch NOW INTERESTING (almost)

Post by bicostp »

On my PSoneP, I'm planning on having video inputs and outputs, so it can hook up to a TV for multiplayer games.

Problem is, I would like it to switch to the external display when the cables are inserted, otherwise it goes to the internal display.

How would I go about this? A resistor on the internal line? Or with a small relay? What? :?

(I have the AV input scheme set: an A/B switch that can either turn on the mobo and screen or just the screen; I just need the output info. And please, no rude comments about me never getting anything done. you know who you are.)

How about an on-off button right next to the A/V plugs, which gives power to the internal screen, so when you plug in the A/V cords you'll push this button with your thumb, thus turning off the screen.

Thats a great idea. That way you don't need to fumble around with resisters. Not to mention a On/Off switch is a good idea for the screen anyways.

Well, I'd like to try and keep the switches to a minimum ('cuz I'm a cheapskate). But I've got a box with a bunch of resistors and relays and stuff, so I was hoping to use what I have.

I'm thinking of modifying the screen as little as possible, probably just making holes in the face of the unit for the screen controls, so I can use the screens power switch, I guess.

Don't expect much progress from me. I'm lazy and frugal. Not the best combination.

Haha. Well atleast your not poor. Thank goodness I had a old VCR with a truckload of old Tactile Switches in the faceplate or else my PSOnep would be a bunch of stray parts on my floor.

I guess I have it all figured out...

I will just have the same AV ports for input and output. (just use the screen's switch to seperately power the screen) I'm not stupid*, so I'll remember when I use the screen by itself vs. using the console as a console.

Unless...

I could use a couple DB-9 connectors... with pins for the audio, video, and a jumper trace to trigger a relay that either switches off the screen or the psone mobo, depending on which connector it's plugged into. :? [thinking]

Oh yeah, I figured out how to get ANYTHING to display on the Intec Screenpad with NO modification! You need to run the data through either a switch box, a connector, or a VCR. Just plug the psone (or whatever) AV cable into the OUTPUT ports on the switch/VCR, and plug it into the female connection on the screenpad's connector. TV looks GREAT on the Intec screenpad, and I can even read the ticker on the Weather Channel! (looks better than our living room TV. Its red tracking is off, causing the red coloring to get stretched at the corners. But I can deal with it.)
