Though I am extremely new to the world of portables, I have built a reasonable number of normal computers, and I can say quite firmly that the AMD equivalent of the P4 2.8GHz is both cheaper and generally more powerful.
The cheapest Intel P4 2.8GHz:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819116185
158 dollars
The cheapest AMD equivalent:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819103377
104 dollars
Don't let the clock speeds sway your judgement, either. Though the AMD has a slower GHz speed, it very literally performs parallel to or faster than the 2.8GHz P4's (thus the 2800+ in the name).
What is the root of all these drug jokes?

There isn't any straight answer to that question ~_~
If you want to keep your PCp thin, you'll want a low profile video card.
This Geforce FX5700LE is the best performing low profile card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814140054
It costs ~75 dollars, but its performance isn't exactly stellar.
If you still plan to buy a full-size video card, I'd need to know how much you are willing to spend before making suggestions.

Ah, here we go. You would be best off using this ribbon cable AGP 4x bus extender:
http://www.servercase.com/miva/miva?/Me ... AGP-ribbon
-and an AGP 4x/8x GeForce 6600GT:
(refurbished) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 814135160R
(new-in-box) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814145107
With that neat ribbon cable, you would be able to position the video card any way you like- such as mounted flat underneath the motherboard. The GeForce 6600GT video card outperforms last year's top end models, such as the FX5950 and the Radeon 9800 series in most situations. Remember, though, that you must use an AGP4x/8x or AGP 4x motherbaord, and the video card will murder your battery life.

even so the mobo is still big, look around and get a tiny ass one, shuttle has a habit of taking up all the floor space it can in those cases...nos_slived wrote:Umm, FDS, check the attitude at the door, this is a coat and tie forum. If you can't handle drug jokes, you shouldn't be here. Now, you never said that the shuttle was going in a seperate case, so how the **** was he supposed to know?
In all honesty if you grab a used Laptop from ebay (a decnt to sweet one.) you could probly to a better job taking the screen off of it and sizing it down by replacing and relocating most to all of the components,
you could even use a PSone screen with a composite to vga converter, put a usb or ps/2 keyboard on it and make your own case. it would be a lot ezyr to solve heat and psu isuses with some thing that has them solved
