An adaptoid is an N64-to-USB conversion dongle that has been discontinued for some time and now sells for an inexplicably high premium. As near as I can tell, its only advantage over other converters is that it supports rumble and memory paks.

Just checked eBay - there's one listed for $90 shipped.

Or there are newer adapters available for $20 that support two simultaneous N64 controllers.

With some experience in PIC programming, it's very doable.

I didn't find enough information for me to do a blind implementation of the key feature (memory pack access using N64 controller), and I'm not going to buy a console, game, controller and memory pack on a lark.

<. .'> sorry to disappoint.

Notes:
Spoiler:
  • N64 controller
    • physical connector...measurements required
    • signaling description...documented
    • Controller descriptors...documented
    • Rumble pack (detect, on, off)...documented
    • Memory pack (detect, read, write)...original research required!
      • logic analyser
      • bus sniffer (design and implementation)
      • analysis of captured data
  • USB HID
    • HID descriptor...needs modification
    • Hardware implementation...done, many times over
    • build...little early to worry about that
  • other
    • allocation of time (ouch)
    • get boss to pay for it?

I got mine for a bit less than that.

One of the ones I bid on ended up going for $98 plus shipping. It took me a while before I finally won one. I wish I had bought one when they made the last batch of them. I was thinking about it, but ended up not going for it.
