sounds like a hardware fault.
I had nearly the same problem.
sometimes the computer just shuts down (i called it instant shutdown :twisted: )

Promblem was a faulty powersupply, 3 capacitors on the pcb.
new powersupply everything ok.

could be a simmilar problem with Peppers PC.

I had a problem, that when I opened any Windows Media File, Windows Media would not open, and would freeze.

Either a software problem (reinstall windows media player) or a codec problem (been downloading any dodgy "all-in-one" codec packs?)
