Yeah, its just seems too good to be true (even though it is!) -- a $150 piece of electronics for only $5!

Seems that SCPH-30001 models have the most problems, right?

People doing professional art or design work will generally swear by CRT since the colours are more accurate. For gaming up until recently TFT has been too slow, but the newer screens are coming with an 8ms response time which is almost equivalent to CRT.

lcds are more environmentally friendly (take up less space in landfills and use significantly less energy), plus i've had too many CRTs die on me to trust them.

CRTs don't die half as much as LCDs in my experience, and they don't get dead pixels either ;)

Doofus wrote:No... The problem with LCD screens as of now, is what's called "Ghosting", which is what Sponge mentioned. It's occurs when objects on the screen are in motion, causing a screen blur wherever the motion is occuring. I've experienced this while gaming on my laptop, and some of the newer Radeons (X600, X800) have "anti-ghosting" technology in them to HELP correct the problem in games, however it doesn't fix the problem completely. I haven't looked into it a whole lot but I think it has a lot to do with an LCD monitors refresh rate capabilities.
It's a low Pixel Response Time that causes it. The Pixel Response Time is the amount of time it takes a pixel to change colors. On a CRT, it's 1 millisecond or less. On the newest LCD's it's around 8-16 milliseconds.

Unidentified Assilant wrote:I have a 19" CRT Monitor, it beats playing games on a LCD any day (espically Unreal Tournament), if so, would a motion problem occur with a PSone Screen? As that is what I intend to use on my PortablePC (one of my forthcoming projects.)
Yes, unfortunately it does occur on PSOne screens. It's not too bad though, considering that PSOne screens have been out for quite a while now. Actually it's only a tad more blurry than a GBA screen. Also, it seems that this blurriness is harder to see on smaller screens. My 3 inch pocket tv has even less blurriness than the PSOne screen. Although that might actually be because the pocket tv is much newer.

I had a little chat with someone at Sony. I asked them what the PSOne screen's Pixel Respnse Time was. The person seemed to know nothing about Playstation. :( So, I still don't know what it is.

I don't think I ever saw any ghosting with a PSOne screen, though I only see it with scrolling text and haven't really had any examples seen with that.

Yeah, on most games it's barely noticeable. :) Even the high-speed Sonic Adventure games look pretty good on it. (And I haven't even tried playing them through RGB yet) It just looks like a slight blur. The same thing happens on the GBA, you only notice it when you're looking for it.
