RAM Makes Me Wanna RAM My Head Into A Wall :-(

I can't belive that my compuuter only has 256 of RAM!

and i'm thinking about giving it more ram but i need 512

let's see

512 /. 2 = 256!

so I need twice the amount, CURSE YoU HOME BREW SWAP MEET COMPUTERS!!!!!

That took math to do? Just go grab something cheap off pricewatch. It'll be especially cheap if you're running on a computer that's still using SDRam...

The game PC I have hooked up to the TV has only 128MB. (need to get around to installing the 4 256 MB chips I have sitting in a box)

all my PCs except 1 use sdram. And they work as good or better than my own that uses ddr ram

To sum up my thoughts:
- First and foremost, DDR is SDRAM, because it is synchronous. The full acronym is Double Data Rate Synchronous Dynamic Read Only Memory (or DDRSDRAM). It's one of those things that makes me wonder why it persists, but oh well.

- gannon: DDR is faster than "SDRAM" (PC100 or PC133). Sorry. And it costs more. That is what is wrong with it. Of course PC133 works just like PC3200 but it is slower and costs more for the same density. Why? Sticks aren't being manufactured by anyone major anymore. So you end up having to pay the same amount for RAM made by shady manufacturers.

- FDSMAN: Unless he has no boss. And there are a LOT of stupid bosses in the world. BTW, I have to kinda agree with Doofus. Either you needed the math or implied that we're idiots and needed the math, so you're kinda in the wrong either way. And "that took math to do?" isn't an insult worth spouting a paragraph-long post about. Honestly, I don't know why you posted this at all. I think this belongs in the group of posts that wastes bandwidth, along with posts such as "I lost my controller!" Unless something extraordinary happened in your daily life, I doubt many people care. I bought a digital camera, MP3 player, etc. this week (I went a bit nuts) but I didn't post every time, nor did I say "I should go buy a digicam!" before doing it. Just go do it, for crying out loud!
Sorry for the long rant, but I had to say it.

- Doofus: Pricewatch sucks and is full of a bunch of shady outfits that sell overclocked RAM and CPUs to suckers. Don't ever recommend it, as it will make you look bad. You'd be 100 times better off if you forgot it existed and used some mix of Fatwallet, Anandtech forums, Newegg and similar respectable retailers, and Froogle.

Sorry if this post sounds like I'm talking down to everyone. Not the intention. Just trying to create some clarity.
(At least I didn't say that DDR is 2*1 = 2 times faster than SDRAM.)

Pricewatch is basically just a service that provides a listing of most any company that sells computer hardware/software. I agree some of the companies look shady, but I also have used pricewatch to purchase brand new, OEM products for a fraction of the cost. I bought a wireless router for $25 when it retailed for around $90. You just have to research the company before going with them.

Good point. I should've rephrased that. Pricewatch can be used but only with Resellerratings at the ready, at the very least. You might also want to just run a google search on references to the store and "ripoff" or something

Pricewatch is good for finding the cheapest deal, Newegg is what I use to shop though.

I dunno. I tend to find better deals looking on fatwallet and anandtech hot deals (just do a search for what you need and you're off). Pricewatch and eBay are pretty good for getting an idea of prices though. I actually am starting to like using eBay for a lot more of my shopping (or at least checking it before making purchases elsewhere) because you can get prices on some things that you swear must be below cost.

Yeah I can vouche that SD-ram PC100 is over priced. I went to Microcenter and picked up the cheapest 128mb stick they had, it was $44.95.

Now as for lack of Ram? Get over it 256 is now what my Mac is up to I was just barely supporting the OS. Also I have 512 in the computer I'm using now, its great under an OS that knows memory management, but Windows your on your own with. I try not to have more then 3-4 apps open at one given time so as to not risk crashes or memory running out.

I have 1 gig of sdram and well, it is kicking some serious ass right now, got it cheap too, my computer is "homemade" only the stuff i like/want in it. My computer is flying, i would recommend sdram to anyone, anytime.
