I've always been a fan of the Xbox 360 controller, and was hoping to find a 3rd party controller that was similar in design for the N64 - I failed (side note: if you know of one, please let me know! It'd save me a lot of time, energy, and trouble). So I thought that I might mash a Yobo SuperPad inside the shell of a 360 controller. For those of you that wonder how it look, here is a grotesque mock up in Paint:

*note - I might keep the A button from the Game Cube as is and make the right trigger B, haven't decided yet
Of course, before I jump into a project like this, I thought I'd run it by you benheckers to see if it could be done, and also to ask what would need to be done. I am a complete noob. I know how to solder, but I've never had to cut up a control board or map buttons to new locations, all of which I thought I'd present to you.
Could I do it? Scale of 1-10 how difficult would you estimate this project to be?
What do I need? I've got a soldering iron, solder, dremel, basic tool set, anything else special (I know I'll need a Gamebit to crack the 360 controller)
Can I use the Xbox 360 joystick? Or should I go with a Game Cube one?
Sorry if my idea is a waste, if this post was convoluted, etc. I'd just like whatever feedback you've got.
