I wouldn't expect for that 3D Modeling computer would have BEASTLY power, as It really doesn't take a powerful computer to run that software, I've seen it run on a 5 year old machine, but unless your dad's friend does hardcore rendering for outputting to high resolutions, I doubt it'll have anything crazy, nonetheless, it may still have the power to run Mirror's Edge!

You could do this. Pirate it for testing reasons, after you test uninstall the pirate and possibly buy the real game. (Dont buy it if it doesnt work.)

The reason why this is sort of fair, is because most stores wont let you return an opened PC game even if you do tell them that your PC cant run it. Around here they just say "Thats what the spec graph/chart on the box is for. Your supposed to know if it can run it or not."

I've heard somewhere that 3d rendering is different from 3d gaming, I've seen a $2000 graphics card for rendering and the guy who bought it for his gaming said it didn't work that well. I'm not saying it won't run mirrors edge, in fact I'm sure it will. But for games like crisis, I'm not sure if it will be as beastly as you think. This shouldn't matter though since you're just playing mirrors edge. I'm just saying, for future reference... >_>

try to get your hands on the desktop and we will try to help you get it running
Or you could open up the case and see what hardware is in there or take pics for us to identify them for you so you don't spend time trying to get it to work if it wont even run the game

p.s. I know what it feels like trying to get games to work on an underpowered pc
that's why I finally built my own, so I will try my best to help get your desktop running.

Your not going to be sharing it much, its extremely short and some people have beaten it in 3 hours or so. though it can take around 6.

Hotdog, your 1.5 ghz Core 2 Duo will be faster than his 1.7 ghz Pentium Dual Core because you have more cache.

Core 2 Quads aren't actually always better for gaming (yet!). I'd take a beastly Core 2 Duo before an expensive Core 2 Quad any day.

But if someone offers me an i7 for cheap, I'm taking that first!

Microcenter has the 920 for $320. A quad running at the same speed will be better for gaming than a dual core. A lot of games don't take advantage of multiple cores. And the ones that do only use two. But newer ones will use 4+; it's just a matter of time.

You also need DDR3 RAM. Really only the 790i boards support it for Core 2.
