"Mirror's Edge" [PC]

Okay, question for the PC gamers out there. My sister and I both want to play "Mirror's Edge," and to avoid conflict, we decided we'd both get our own copies (PS3 for me and PC for her). According to the System Requirements Lab, everything on our Mom's laptop (which is more powerful than either mine or my sister's) met the minimum requirements for running the game and so should be fine... except it doesn't have the exact brand of graphics card the game wants, so it registered a "fail." As you can imagine, this really poses an issue, as there's a significant risk that the $50 my sister would be spending on the game would be totally wasted if the game doesn't run.

Do you need to have the exact kind of graphics card the game wants in order to run it, or would it be perfectly fine as long as everything else meets the minimum requirements? I'd really hate to have my sister waste $50 on a game she can't even run.

It doesn't have to be the brand, it's just a brand that is best for it, normally the game just has the graphics specs required on the box. Not the needed brand. You should be fine as long as your graphics card is powerful enough

Either ATI or Nvidia is fine. For ATI I think it has to be X800 or better.

Ooh. Its an intel graphics card. This game MAY not work with that. Most games current gen games have incompatibilities with intel graphic cards.

Yes, I've experienced that first-hand... well, more or less. However, I can't find anything about any outstanding issues with Intel cards on the internet, so I don't know if I'm either not seeing problems or that there aren't any to report.

I really wouldn't recommend playing mirrors edge on an intel graphics card. That's an on board one and uses processing power from other parts of the system, and isn't very good. It's a standard one that comes with the computer. I couldn't even get half life 2 to run on mine on all low settings, it ran but very choppy. If your sister is going to get the pc version, she would also have o invest in a new graphics card to run it. Unless it's a laptop, which means you can't put a new graphics card in.

Yeah, it's a laptop. Damn... Looks like it's a no-go, then. This is what I hate about PC gaming, the damned deceptive system specs. Now to break the bad news to my sister.

Sorry, your mom's laptop just doesn't have the cajones to run Mirror's Edge. The CPU's too slow, and the GPU is essentially nonexistent. Or basically any game made in the last 5 years, for that matter.

Looks like you're going to have to share the PS3 version, or build a decent computer to do this stuff with.

There's nothing deceptive about the system requirements.

It requires a 3.0 ghz processor (which you don't have) and a GeForce 6800 or equivalent (which you don't have). This isn't a matter of brand, it's a matter of processing power. Gaming needs a V8, she's got a weed whacker.

Sorry but she should have checked into it before buying.

Too bad the desktop my Dad got from one of his friends doesn't work; his friend used to use it for 3D modeling, so it'd probably be a beastly gaming platform.

Try and figure out what's wrong with it. What are the symptoms?

If I recall correctly, it just won't start up. It'll power on and act like it's going to work, but a message comes up on the screen before anything actually happens... I'll have to ask my Dad to see if he can tell me about what the message said.
