"Mirror's Edge" [PC]

Okay, I've got people on both sides telling me I can run it and other saying I can't run it for various reasons, one tells me to download the demo and others say there is no demo and that I should *pirate* it (which I would feel awful about; it's just as bad as stealing a physical copy, in my opinion, plus I don't have the first clue about how to use torrents or whatever)... I'm confused, to say the least.

It should work on low quality, since it doesn't say that it need a decent vid card.

Yeah, but since there's no demo for me to try it out to be sure, I'd have to either *steal* it (which I've already given my feelings about) or my sister can risk wasting $50, and she's not someone who has a lot of money and can't afford to buy a game she couldn't run.

I don't steal. I try before I buy sometimes. It should run. My friend was playing games on his lesser laptop with lower graphics fine.

There is no way in hell an 8MB GPU will even let the game startup.

Don't waste your time trying.

It uses the system's ram, so it uses less when it doesn't need it. It probably jumps up to 256MB or so in a game.

Still, if it has 8MB of memory. there is a huge chance that it is not powerful enough.

Either "steal" it and test it, or just buy it and take the risk. Have you google'd to see if anyone with a similar gpu has run it?

Trust me, when it comes to having to share consoles, it causes issues. I had this same problem with my GameCube a few years ago where we were constantly at odds because of one of us wanting to use the console when the other was playing it and wasn't willing to give it up, and I'd hate to have that occur yet again. I had to have this same conversation with a friend of mine and he now considers me to be a selfish jerk just because I want to keep the peace between my sister and me. Don't *facepalm* me, please.

Dude, I have the same problem with my sis. She hogs the PS2 and Gamecube for Guitair Hero and Mario Kart but they were mine literally so I had to take them away. Why don't you just rent it? Or take the risk and if it doesn't work sell it on ebay

As for selling it on eBay, not an option. Selling on eBay is a royal pain in the *behind,* my parents are the ones who'd have to arrange shipping, and we would still be losing a lot of money on it because it's not only used, but eBay and PayPal fees would eat up part of that money, too. It'd be much wiser and less costly to just not buy it.

I see, you could pirate it. I used too awhile ago before I downloaded Adobe Photoshop and unleashed hell on my computer and it was filled with so much viruses that I had to do system restore. That's Karma. I'd try to share it with your sis if its the last possible option. It's a great game so you could risk it, if everything else checks out okay. But I'd try to see if you could share with your sister first.

If you can't share the PS3 version and you don't have a PC that can run the game*, the cheapest option for you is to drop $200 or so on a used 360 and have her get that version.

*Even if your mom's laptop does load the game, it's going to run like crap because you're barely meeting the system requirements.

Oh, my, it's like playing "Portal" all over again...

So, basically, I've got a choice between three relatively undesirable things (my sister wouldn't be thrilled in the slightest at the idea of spending $250 she doesn't have on a used 360 and a copy of "Mirror's Edge" when what she really wants is a PS3)... Damn.

Well, I guess the only option I've got left is to try to get my Dad's desktop (the former 3D modeling machine) fixed... But that was the reason my Dad just bought a new laptop; he didn't want to bother with the (probably high) cost of repairing it and instead just got a laptop he knew for sure he could use for what he needed. Come to think of it, that laptop might be able to play "Mirror's Edge" (it's got decent specs and an NVidia card)... but I don't think he'd like that idea since he needs it for his teaching job.
