According to electric rain's post the camecube doesn't draw more than 2300mah at power up in 1,9v. I'm using a LMS1587-CS-ADJ. these output 3A max. So it should be enough no? Why would I need 2?

What I did to test the regulators is use the original for the 1,9v and 3,3v line and then the custom on the 5v line with psone adapter. It works also for the 3,3v line but not for the 1,9v line? That is the problem I tough the psone adapter couldn't take that much draw. It says it's outputs 3A though so don't really understand.

Sure, if they output 3amps they will be fine of course.

Let's just hope it works. My battery's are taking ages te get here. Waiting is a pain...

Has their been anyone other than skyone to succsefully run the gamecube of 7,5v? Without the original regulator ofcourse.

Thing is, SS posted that the 12v line isn't needed and runs off the 5v line happily, which begs the question as to why he used 11v cells (as that would allow for the GC voltage regulators to work ok) rather than a 7805 for the 5v, a TI card for the 3.43v and one or two if needed (in parallel) TI card(s) for the 1.9v

SS used the original regulator cause he couldn't get the custom regulator to work correctly.
The original takes as low as 10,2 volts if i remeber correctly.

I already knew that nobody actually used the custom regulator before exept skyone, and even he has he doubts that he had a working one since it was so long ago.

When I get my battery's I can clarify if it works or not. If anybody beats me to it by all means post the info!

Okay, I guess I forgot to mention this: The gamecube can run off of skyones regulators. I actually did it. They just needed proper heatsinking, and in order to run it off of those, I would have to buy more parts again(I screwed up the regs, whoops), so instead, I just went with a 3rd cell. Worked out well, I didn't have to do as much work.

Yes, it worked like I said. It got too hot, and then it shut itself down, but I had no heatsinks, so that's why. I'll give you a hint, if the cube boots up and the logo is really blocky, you just screwed up your cube. It gets hot enough to melt ice quickly after a minute of run time. Burn your hand off melt the solder hot. The cube's video and audio quality get shaky right before the temperature sensor trips. I should be able to answer anyy specific questions.

So in short is DOESN'T work. I mean turning it on is not working. Using the device for a long period of time without any issues IS working. I doubt that a heatsink wil do any good if it get's THAT hot that means the draw is just too much for 1 reg alone. Maby putting another in parralel?? They would both share the amp draw no?

Were you able to power it using the PSOne adapter? Or did you use a 7,4v battery?

I think i'm still gonna try my version of the regulator since i'm using stightly different chips. Still have to wait for my battery's though Can't believe their not here yet. It's been like 3 weeks already!!

China batteries? It could be another few weeks, they have been on Chinese new year. Basically, they all stop working and party, even the post office.

I used a 7.4v 6.4Ah Li-ion battery.

It would have worked fine with proper heatsinking. I mean, It didn't actually melt the solder.

Skyone needs to get in here and answer some questions.

Nah I got the battery's from someone in the States. It would normally take about 2 weeks. I already contacted the seller zo only time wil tell. I might use a polymer battry pack my friend has just to test if the regulators hold out(with the heatsink )

Just found out that he didn't even ship my battery's so canceld my order and i borrowd my friend polymer pack 7.4v 4000mah. just tested the regulator's and IT WORKS......for 2 seconds

The pack wasn't completly charge(in the charger now) so i can't say for 100% certainty. But gamecube goes on and tries the read gamecube disk and then screen goes all copulate up and dis drives stops. If this has to do with proper heatsinking of the 1,9v regulator, thicker cables or fully charged battery I don't know.

I'll be trying all the above named things to see if it makes a difference. Any other idea;s what it could be?

Troubleshooting guide:

Heatsinking: 100% necessary for anything linear regulators. A good way to test if it is the problem is to see if it runs longer with ice cubes.
Thicker cables: Yes, very needed. I used speaker wire.
Fully charged battery: Yep, very needed.

So, in short: a combination of the above, is the most likely.

Obviously you gotta make sure the ice is in a bag, don't want it melting all over your regulators.
