Its the buttons I ripped off. Literally the button traces. Plus a few others. And I tried soldering to the chip. Got no ware. Namely because my tip isn't nearly small enough for detail work like that.

Are the traces ripped all the way to the IC?

If not, you can sand the enamel to expose copper, and even a 30w radio shack iron can deal with that.

Thanks, but no thanks. Even if I had a tip small enough to do it, I don't want to. I have plenty of room for a fullsize controller board, so I might as well save myself some time and effort by putting one in there.

EDIT: I did decide to try it... And in trying to get the rest of the glue off, I ripped one of the traces all the way to the chip...Ouch.

A few of you might be wondering why I haven posted anything lately.

Well, I'm out of a screen motherboard. My new one fried a little while ago. I was hoping it was fixable and spent a fair amount of time rewiring it different ways to get it to work to no avail.

Last night, I brought it up to who I feel is the pioneering SNESp builder on the forums, Life of Brian. And unless I somehow crossed pins that are invisible and made a short that shouldn't have happened....It was gremlins.

The 17th is my birthday (three days, yay!), and I hope to get some cash to replace it. If not...I dunno. I guess just give me some time. But with money the way it is...That could be a while.

Good news in all this is, fried or not, I have all the parts. Which means I can start and finish the case. I have some ideas, and I hope for this to be one of the smoothest cases ever for a first-portable.

So my Birthdays over. Got cash. But not nearly enough for a screen on the eBay market.

I also got a soldering iron (WIN!), a bottle of Bawls (WIN!, and the complete first season of Full Metal Alchemist (SUPERWIN!!!).

I'm torn between saving money for a screen or finally buying a NES (Which I really need so I can finally own one). I'll prolly save for a screen (Because I want this DONE...). The NES can wait.

Hold off until garage sale season. Old people practically throw NES systems away, often times with plenty of games. I don't think I ever spent more than $5 on an NES.

Thanks for letting me know. I wish people threw screens away. Cuz thats what I really need (I'd settle for a working Zenith/PSone board. But a spare LCD is nice to have.).

I honestly hate not having money. Heh. Oh well. Might get lucky.

Depending on if I completely fail this new LCD mod I am doing, I may have a spare LCD board for you to have; I will let you know if I can not manage to fix my LCD.

Please do! Cuz I get the feeling the last few bucks I'ma need to track down a eBay screen (Or eBay screen/console combo as those seem to be nearly equal in price. Or even one from here if I manage across one.) is gonna take a damn-long time to get. I am trying to be responsible, after all (Which is easier said than done when easily the most expensive part is the one that likes to die).

Yeah it is. Last night I was carrying the screen and mobo and the screen fell off and tore the ribbon connector! Luckily I still had that second one. Funny how that stuff works, because I was going to send it to you but you didn't need it after all.

It is more than possible, it is very doable. I have done it on my PSone LCD with a few messed up traces, and even repaired 6 along the edge of a DS Lite screen ribbon cable.

The traces are actually pretty big, if you think you can handle that close of a pitch, I could post a tutorial on how to solder to torn ribbon cables.

It's been to damn long...To damn long...

And nothing to show for it, either, so sorry for dragging you here for pretty much no reason. Been job hunting hard-core with no success as of thus. So that means, no parts, and no work. On ANY of my projects. Seriously, the last thing I did on this project was box it up so it wouldn't get destroyed when we moved here to NY. Pathetic, right? And its getting to me. I love working on these. And honestly, I'd rather have a screen and fry it than not have that screen, because without it I can't to anything. Without it, all I have is a box of stuff, and more than enough time on my hands. It sucks. With caps. I guess I have a form of cabin fever. Only instead of not having anyplace to go, I have a lot of places to go. But nothing to do when I get there. The only thing of great mention I've done is add 9 games to my 2600 collection (Including a mint Pitfall!, by the way - $5).

I guess I came here for a brief moment to get some stuff off my chest, and try to relax on the forum that seems to understand me. At least, you understand my hobby. So far, I'm getting a so-so reaction, but thats just in typing this, and maybe if people reply, I'll feel a little better.

I'd ask for parts. Ask for help. I know nobody can do that. First party controllers... Blue Ultra-Bright LEDS... Stuff like that - as awesome as they are to me - is one thing. Screens are another, and I know that. So I wont ask for parts. Or help, even, as my biggest problem is not having parts and asking for help would, in effect, be asking for parts. I will say that the forums are freaking beautiful now. Look very nice. Love the new layout. Easier to manage, I hope?

Anyways, I may or may not be around a lot like I used to. Like I said, I've been job hunting like a druggie injects foreign substances into his body. I've grown emotionally because of it. But for 19, I look old. Damn stress... But you don't wanna hear about that. You want to hear about some sort of project so you know that I'm for real, and not some wanna-be. I'm doing my best, guys. Honestly, I am. And I will get "Some sort" of project to you so you do know I'm for real. To many people lost faith in me when the HBN64 tanked. More people, no doubt, have lost faith in me on this because of the lack of work. I will try to satisfy your thirst, and my own thirst for both completion, and recognition of a project. And if not for you, then for me (My family included in this), I need to finish something. For my sanity (Maybe over dramatic, but when you've nothing to do for as long as I have...The small things like this really start to mean a lot more than they should).
