Making a Wireless mouse Wired.

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Making a Wireless mouse Wired.

Post by Kurt_ »

So. I was in need of a mouse for my laptop, after I kind of messed up a mouse I had. I don't need anything fancy, just for FPS. So, why spend $20 on a non-fancy mouse, when I can BUY 11 AS-IS MICE FROM EBAY FOR $25!

So that's what I did. Two are basic mice, working, wired, optical USB.

Those two are the "working" ones.

There's a wired Microsoft one that needs fixing, and three notebook usb mice with a "broken receiver". I can try to fix those, too, no problem.

The problem lies in the others. They are listed as "working", but without the receiver base. So, is there a way to pull a readable USB signal from the wireless mouse itself, and make a wired usb mouse from a wireless one?

Is there a usb signal on the mouse that is sent over radio waves to the receiver that I can just pull from straight into the USB data lines?

Don't be shy with suggestions, even with theory on how a usb wireless mouse works. I have five tries. :P

This is just a random guess, but I don't think wireless mice output any kind of USB. They must send the signals to the reciever and it turns those into USB... Just a guess, though.

As above, not likely to have tapable USB signals. You might see if any are bluetooth, then you can use a generic bluetooth dongle.

USB is really overkill to talk to a mouse, and is way inefficient to implement wirelessly to just receive input from a mouse. Long shot if none are bluetooth: check the datasheets of the chips inside to see if any are mode switchable to USB or PS/2 protocol. You might also be able to find out enough info on the datasheet to wire what was the wireless chip's input to a microcontroller and have that translate to USB.

Meh, whatever. I was really hoping I could get this one nice Logitech gaming mouse working, but I guess that's that. I'll just have to settle with 7 mice...
