making an analogue control stiffer...

Post by ffrr »

lol... no innuendo was meant by the title ;)

seriously though, as the topic suggests... how would you go about making an analogue thumb stick control stiffer?

My reason for wanting this done is because, personally, I feel the analogue controls are a bit too loose for my liking.

This is initially aimed at a PS2/PS3 control analogue assembly.

Making the springs stronger springs was my first idea... I took several broken analogue thumb sticks apart to see how it could be done but, I cannot initially see an easy way to do this.

my advice would be to bondo a moving part until it's bigger and will rub up against something else when u move the joystick if that made sense?
Cheers,

Remind me how the spring in analogue sticks work again? :?

Springs that have been stretched out give more resistance, so I figured that might work. But I haven't opened any joysticks lately.

I think they work as expansion springs, not compression.

*me too*

I have no Idea what you are talking about compression- expansion, but in an n64 joystick you take it apart and then you strech out the spring and it works better for a couple weeks.

Would the stiffer analogs make your thumbs more tired?

Eventually.

The more feedback you have, the more accurate you can control, to a certain extent.

I'd be interested in doing this kind of mod.
Great for any games with sniper rifles.

heheh, thank you all for the replies so far ;)

I think the key is to modify the springs...

my goal is to make the thumbstick firmer, not too firm, but more than what they currently are. And if its successful I'll put the end result into my old nunchuck mod I made a while back.

You could also just exchange the analog stick with a better one

Still, It'd be nice to customize the feel on it.
