Just came back from a car boot sale - bought this for £3 (well, that was what he asked for it, paid him £2). Boxed. Complete.
Tried to get a VR (Virtual Reality) headset a while back but prices got too high, even on e-bay you can spend a lot of money on them.
Guy said he tried to get it to work last night, didn't; I thought, couple of quid, worth a gamble!
Initially system didn't turn on - mains plug goes into a box which takes in the signals and outputs them, only takes 5v, 2.2 amps. Ok, I thought, if this works I can easily make a battery pack 5v.
DC end going into box needs pressing right in, must be a slightly loose plug inside - anyway, powers up fine now.
This is the system:

Tried system, realised the main reason the guy sold it so cheap - the left lens works fine, the right one is virtually white light although the text shows through ok. This must either be a bad lens or a faulty connection on the colour lines - anyway, the left lens is perfectly fine.
Another thing - I wear spectacles as I am short sighted (Myopia). VR glasses are of little use if you wear spectacles as you can't use them with specs on and if you take them off your vision is very blurry!
Hit on an idea. At work, I have to be able to see what is going on around me, however at quiet times I can read or play games until anyone wants me for any reason. I put the left eyeglass onto my specs, focus was right! I can see all around me, full vision in one eye and very good image quality with the other eye for the game being played!
Removed the back plate, the screens and mobo are really tiny!

Then removed the screws holding in the rest of it:

Took some pics from my camera on macro mode, slightly blurry pics though - the screen at the eyeglass end is only 18mm wide. System being shown is a Namco plug'n'play (bought one today £1). I sell them for profit on e-bay!

(the line on the top of the screen is present on the plug'n'play, not a fault on the screen. All the Namco PacMan systems have this.

This is what I get on the right lens, camera couldn't focus as text on screen wasn't good enough).

This is the eyepiece, about 35mm thick, including mobo.

Spare specs on it - gives an idea of size:

The control box is 150 x 110 x 35mm in size; I can easily open it up, incorporate batteries, games system and make a different case for it. The one cable coming out of the box to the eyepiece will remain, as it carries the signals for the video and audio. I can make an earpiece on the specs.

This was my previous set of specs, I got new ones a couple of months ago, the lenses are fine, just got lightweight ones to replace them with. This means the old specs are absolutely fine to use in a modding project!
Project is on hold, I must not get tempted to work on it until AFTER I finish my PSone, N64 and Retro Duo consoles and start selling some of my cases! This VR project will be my next project though!
System naked:

Concept is proven now, just need to devote time to make it work.
