Self Booting PC Game

Post by DSN »

How do I make a computer boot up automatically into a pc game? I want to use an old pentium 3 computer as a dedicated machine to play a pc game I have created. Maybe I will make it into an arcade later. I just want to ba able to turn on the computer, and have it go right into the game bypassing any normal bootup screens. Is it possible?

If you mean for it to not to boot into an OS but directly into the game, not gonna happen. If, however, you want to make it so the computer auto-loads the game without having to select it or anything, I suppose you could create start-up scripts that'll load the game up once the OS loads.

Put a shortcut to it in the Startup folder in the Start menu.

You might also want to make a batch file that kills explorer.exe. (You'll probably need another command line program to do this;.)

If you plan on using a Linux bases MAME, then you should be able to write a few lines of code that will make the system start the game you want. And if you are interested in nothing by the game itself, set the system to boot in runlevel 3.

Bicostp, when you say explorer exe. you mean internet explorer? I plan on having only the game on the computer, so I can just erase explorer right?

Sparkfist, what is runlevel 3? Is it part of MAME? The game is one I made, not an arcade game run in MAME. Or can you run homemade games in MAME?

Explorer.exe is the windows start menu and icon system(please correct me if i am wrong). Killing it wont make your computer crash but it kind of removes functionality.

BTW Internet Explorer is called iexplore.exe
