what made you decide to use tacts instead of an actual snes controller? i like to hear different peoples reasons behind their choice.

i take it that all the extra plastic from the snes will be removed...? at least i hope...?

know if you're gonna go landscape or portrait...? or is that a secret?

In order of asked:

I wanted to use tacts cuz I love the feel. And I don't want to deal with the old rubber buttons. The controller I used was old, and the contact was horrible. With tacts, I have solid connection, and I know when the button it pushed, its gonna respond.

Actually that plastic is there to stay. Its to support the game, and make sure an idiot whose never used it before cant plug my games in backwards. It looks bulky, but it really isn't. For me anyway.

Portrait. Cuz it just seems thats the way it should be, in this case.

make it some other color than black grey or white and it will look different enough for me! you dont see any brightly colored handhelds really. like green, or a nice bright blue, or maybe a nice shade of orange or something.

Second, I'm in need of help!

As nice as batteries are, they will die eventually. So it'd be much better, on a road trip, if you didn't have to use the battery. Heres the solution to that problem that will work with any car that has a cigarette lighter plug installed and without having to spend $50+ for a good inverter. You just power it directly from the car battery. So....A plug that will go into the system and supply 7.4 volts - Same as the battery - while getting that power from a 12 volt source. Which is the best way to do this? I know I'd either need a resistor or a regulator to do this. Both would work.

But which is best, and easiest (and cheapest) considering the ampdraw (Which is what, exactly?) of the system/screen?

get one that already outputs 7.4v and simply change the plug if need be. any psone car adapter will work. here is an example. there are many different ones that would be usable for this. heck, even the zenith screens have them.

if you want to go this route, and simply change the plug, i have a few from my zenith screens and i'm sure i could sell you one for quite cheap.

of course, if you get one that is designed for the psone, you won't have to change the plug. just use the plug from the psone screen.

or use an adjustable switching regulator. it will be much more efficient than resistors.

Cool. Thanks. I'd buy a screen (Need one anyways), but I've no way to do it. I got enough cash to finish this project, pretty much. I wish I had a card, so I could order it.

Tacts got here today (The seventh, for future reference)! (Thanks Mario). If I have some time in a sec, I'm gonna wire them up. If not, give me a few days.

And a name has been chosen...

I am determined to get this thing finished. The controller is wired up, and works perfectly. This is how I did it:


Left to right: D-Pad - Start/Select - AB/XY


Staring L, R and special guest; My index finger. COMPLETE WITH SOLDERING IRON BURN!!!


Long wires are for where I'm putting them in the case. I really did need that much. No cross-talk, so I guess no problem.


The glue over the Start/Select solder joints have my thumb prints in it. So, if I ever go missing, just tell the police to take apart my SNESp to get my complete thumb prints.

I was considering telling everybody the name of the portable in this post, but decided not to. Maybe if people showed interest by POSTING BACK TO MY THREAD... I wouldn't have changed my mind.

Heheh. Hot glue. Fifteen? No I didn't. Sorry about that. Thanks for sending them. Still need to put your name on the chassis. I just tested the SNES itself. It works fine, as well.
