heres a doozy of a question..

Post by dragonhead »

even though i haven't finished my genesis portable, im already planning a dreamcast one.
id really like to use vga for the connection to the built in screen. now, i know that compatibility is a little awkward with the DC vga adaptor... so heres my question:

will the DC VGA box work on a VGA modded PSone screen?

hmm quite a conundrum....

It "should" work since it outputs 640x480 which is what the Psone screen with Vga hack needs.

But the Vga hack on the Psone is picky about it's signal so .......

I'm not 100% sure, but pretty damn sure that the Dreamcast can output at 15Hz and so it can use the PSone screen no problem. You should double check over at gamesx.com to be sure.

the dc can do 15khz with a small mod. but after that, you think it will do?

Yes, it'll work. It'll actually be more compatible than running at 31kHz, because at 15kHz it's the same frequency as a TV. 15kHz RGB mode is the same as SCART mode.

You should do a custom VGA mod for your Dreamcast rather than buy a VGA box for your Dreamcast. Will save you some money. There are instructables on how to do it. The results look promising but I've never done it so I can't tell you first hand.
