Excellent, Skyone. I am very pleased you took that view and changed the other thread too. Greatly appreciated, and respect to you (credit where credit is due, mate). I am happy again; it would be a very sad day for me if I ever left here under a cloud, this forum is important to me after all. Excellent!

Update then on my project - built a battery cover on the expectation the new cells will be the same footprint when they arrive (should be, both for Canon 911 camcorder, new cells half height though). Found a far quicker and far better finished way to make them. Using recess inside case to rest battery case on top of PSone mobo; this helps halve the height needed and will make it the same protrusion as I had with the NDS cells; ideal. Needed to do some redesign though, but all fine in the end. My system will have two Li-ions now integrated, not one cell; weight in total of the cells 198g (99g each), so complete system including batteries and game cart about 550g, and c. 3.7 amps at 7.2v to power it. I measured the amps needed for the PSone screen and plug'n'play unit - total of 800mA so 3.7amps should give 4.5 hours before recharge. Ample! :D

Will do a large update on my site on Tuesday, cart and battery cover will be covered. Too busy at the moment with this system production to update site.

All being well, and a fair wind, this system *should* be awesome!

Oh yeah - I have been talking about making the plug'n'plays into game carts? Half way through making first one (can't finish off system until batteries come Wednesday, so can get on with the other work in the interim). Pic shows a standard GB cart, and mine, half way through build. Just need to wire to the contacts and put top and sides on; paint, then print on a groovy logo!

Update - wired up, one or two minor alterations, works fine. Not easy soldering to such small contacts.

People started arguing when a prize was added to this thing. Technically by these standings I can submit all the portables I have ever built. ^_^
Please stop saying that the prize is causing all the problems.

The issue of a deadline and what would be allowed was brought up WELL before I offered a prize.

This quote is from page 3 of this thread and I didn't offer a prize till page 10.

And thank you Skyone for editing the Submission Thread to make it more "Official" :)

and the reason you have not started the NESSP is because it is impoossible!
It's not impossible, if a NOAc can be jammed inside a controller, with a controller and cart slot it is possible, it just requires a lot of rewireing, basically destroying the pcb and instead of traces, use fine wire, so you can jam everything in, I'll get it work, by hook or by crook..

Thats different I am talking about the real bickering .

Looking good bacteria. Hopefully those batteries solve the problems you where having. You know if you LED mod that screen you can cut the power usage in half  9 hours of gameplay is pretty sexy.

Thanks Rekarp. These batteries will be fine, I know it; their bigger brothers proved to be very good. Same brand.

Yup, I know the LED mod would have that advantage, however I don't like any pic or video I have seen where they have been used, my eyes go towards the bright corners, which would be annoying. I therefore keep them unmodded, as Sony intended!

I am rather pleased with myself, actually. I turned around a disaster with the NDS cells drama and with a bit of problem solving, came up with a solution which won't mean making the system bigger and will be a far neater solution.
Near completion of first game cart (as per previous post)- a Namco (Galaxians, Dig Dug, Pacman, etc) - you know the one Image - several more to do...

Game-plan - Tuesday and Wednesday - make some more game carts (2 or 3 more). Thursday - mod the back of the case significantly to implement new design with new batteries. Friday - tests, make GBA add-on (if time, a day's solid work in itself, might not have the time though (doesn't matter if I don't), especially if rest of project needs more time to complete). Friday/Saturday - upload pics and video of submission. That's the plan, anyway!

Since my NiMh battery was left to its lonesome for the past two years, it's open-circuit voltage dropped from the standard 7.2 down to around 1v. Needless to say, blasting it with a 1C charge would shorten its life significantly, so I'm trickle charging at 1/36C (100mA) which I expect to take around 40 damn hours! At least this will balance out the cells again and bring it back for a long service playing N64 games.

Anyhow, here's a couple of pictures without the stainless "trim". I'll put the trim back on once I've tested that it still works (as it did a week ago :))

Here you can see the cells. I had planned to have twice as many, but I wanted the whole case to come apart rather than gluing one half to the trim, so I had to introduce those Aluminium posts:

Plugged in and trickle charging... It's going to be a long wait!
[ig]http://junklet.nfshost.com/top_trickle_charge.jpg[/img]

The finish isn't perfect, but in the interest of my sanity I stopped sanding after many iterations:
[ig]http://junklet.nfshost.com/rear_trickle_charge.jpg[/img]

I wanted to have a gloss finish, but it just wasn't going to happen with the cheap paint I bought. I wet sanded both surfaces very lightly so the finish is smooth but looks slightly textured.

The case is big by today's standards, but it's still playable (I was a fan of the fat Xbox controllers too)

I'll post some decent quality photos when it's up and running. Just wanted to make a quick update here because watching my charger's LCD slowly tick over is driving me to distraction.
That thing looks awesome, and I especially like the way you designed the cart slot area and the shoulder buttons!

I must say, I find the idea of tagging each submission very fair. Of course, the final effect of doing that won't be known until the voting's done, but whatever.

I still won't bother finishing my entry within the deadline and enter it, though. I have no desire to, and the project's been moved to the back burner anyway. It'll get finished, yes, but not for any ambiguous deadlines.

It gives a finish to the wood. I don't like staining as it looks unnatural. Lacquer also protects the wood from humidity changes which can crack the case. When I brought my first NESp V1 from Houston to Austin the dry weather sucked the moisture out of the wood and cracked the front panel. When I went back to Houston it expanded and I put polyurethane on it to seal it. No more problems.

Ok I finished the update on the worklog

Yeah.
