FireFox3: What are your thoughts?

I haven't migrated to 3 yet, waiting on a few add-ons to make the jump to supporting 3.

However, I just built a system for my parents and I threw 3 on there. For some reason Youtube keeps playing the small video when you hit the view fullscreen button, which means you hear audio from both if you don't puase the small one first. Anybody encounter this? Windows 2000 SP4 + update pack.

I still prefer Safari over FireFox. It's faster, it renders better, it takes up less memory, and it has a cleaner interface. However, FireFox is probably now my number 2 browser instead of Camino. Both browsers are light years ahead of that turd of internet explorer that's called a browser for some reason. As a webmaster I find it highly irksome to spend one hour to get a webpage to look how I want with standard CSS then spend 4 hours getting it to work with IE.

I really really liked the way safari was (for PC), but it took up a lot of screen space. (I like as much as possible to be the webpage)

Stop supporting IE and people will stop using it.

Maybe that is wishful thinking.

Just upgraded a few minutes ago. Doesn't seem to be any issues, other than I like the FF2 theme more (it just seemed to blend the tabs better into the overall screen), as well as the button layout (back, forward, home, etc.). I kinda like seeing BACK on an arrow.

I switched over to using Opera, uses less memory than Firefox, but I really could give less than a shi* about Memory, this computer is not exactly what you would call a gameing machine, 640MB of RAM is plenty for this machine.

I just like how Opera looks and how it scrolls the page, much faster than Firefox 3 too.

when you have less ram, isn't that when it really starts to matter how much you're using?

when you have less ram, isn't that when it really starts to matter how much you're using?

640 is pretty decent for RAM. You can still buy computers from Dell and Gateway that come standard with 512, so hes above that. (I'm running on 512 now.)

The way I see it, Opera is comparable to a nicely equipped car and Firefox is like a small truck. Opera gets good gas mileage (uses less ram) and has some nice features built in, but you can't add a whole lot to it. Firefox gets decent enough mileage and is comparably sparse stock, but you can add a whole lot to it to increase its usability and features. So they're both good browsers, you just have to choose what fits your likes and needs.

I just upgraded a little bit ago and it seems to be alright so far. The new look is going to take some getting used to. I have 2 gigs of ram so I'm not really worried about memory too much. However, I have lots of spyware and stuff that just constantly eats at my memory

. Know of any awesome spyware removal software to recommend to me? Ad aware won't update and nothing I've used so far can even find it....I've been dealing with it for months, but I just end the processes that I know are bad, and ignore it for the most part.

Upgraded a couple days ago. Haven't noticed much of a difference, but time will tell...

As a webmaster, however, it's kind of annoying.

A few of my websites are having problems with divs and tables not centering. Apparently, you have to add "margin: auto" to their styles for it to work properly.

I never knew that was the "proper" way to do it, and Firefox has always been about following W3C standards as close as possible, whereas IE is like, "Eh, that's improper HTML, but, so let's just make it do this." Then you're like, "WTF? That's not at all what I wanted it to do!"

Besides that minor tweak, not too much has changed that I've noticed, other than some of my old extensions not working anymore.

I wasn't a fan of the FF2 skin and I'm not a fan of this one; I use minimal skins. I like all the screen real-estate I can get, so I used the miniFoxFat skin with FF2, which is unsupported in FF3, so I now use Classic Compact. I also use ColorfulTabs, which is awesome and does exactly what it sounds like; makes each of your tabs a different color. The pallet it uses is very nice... I recommend it to add some splash to your skin and also to help differentiate between tabs.

Oh, and yeah, I hope FF3 doesn't have that memory-sucking problem, where all of a sudden, for no reason at all, FF starts using up 450MB of RAM and sucking up all your processing power.

I've been using Firefox 3 since beta 2, when I was on Ubuntu 7. I upgraded to Ubuntu 8.04 at about the same time as Firefox beta 3 came out, and couldn't be happier. I used to be a hardcore Opera user (used it since version 3!), but about a year ago I started becoming interested in the Free Software movement and switched. (yeah, I know technically I should be using Ice Weasel, but its just a difference of logos. I'll switch when I have time).

The only difference is that Iceweasel is a debian build of Firefox, they are exactly the same program... No reason to bother switching.

Technically Ubuntu isn't even Debian.

Edit: Technically, isn't Opera open too?
