Should I sell my wii?

Post by Grandmasterjimmy »

I'm thinking of selling it. It's a great system, it's just most of the game's don't have much replay value. If I sell it, I'm either getting a PS3 or XBOX 360.

I have wireless, plus the PSN is free, so I'm now leaning towards PS3. Although I hate the PS controller, I find the 360 controller better fitted in my hands.

XBOX 360 is pretty awesome, my cousin let me borrow his for a week one time, and I loved it. But then there's the red rings on a 360.

I'd buy the cheapest version oof either system, I don't care about having a huge harddrive or anything. The 40gb PS3 seems to go on ebay for around $100 plus shipping, and so does the 360 core system.

So you guys need to help me figure out what I should do. I sort of want a 360, but it doesn't have wireless, unless you buy an adapter, But I like the controller a lot more. It's not a big deal that it doesn't have wireless. My wirless routers close to my room, and I have a hole in the floor next the it, and another hole in my floor for wires. XBOX live seems kinda pricy too.

I also could play with my cousin online which would be really fun, so that's an other upside to 360.

AAAAAAAAAAHHH!!! Help me figure out what I should do :(

Buy a Xbox 360. $50/year for xbox live isn't very much when you compare it with WoW.

Yes you should, and if you happen to have a extra Wiimote give me a good deal on it.

And if the Xbox pad is a big deal for you, build a PS360 controller. :P

If you want a large selection of modern games, go with a 360.
If you want Blu-Ray and fewer (but really huge) games, get a PS3.
If you want none of the above, keep your Wii.

I say wait till E3 rolls around, and if there are no decent games that interest you that are announced at the show, then sell your Wii.

Because Nintendo annouced that they were going to be annoucing quite a few games for Core gamers at E3.

So just hold your horses on selling your Wii, cause I garentee you will regret selling it.

But Personally I would go for the PS3 over the 360.

PS3 has impressive hardware and rarely break, 360s break by looking at them the wrong way.

You're thinking of the n64. They only break if you mistreat them.

That is if you open an N64, I still have yet to see a N64 that is broken and was never opened, and I see lots of N64s.

360s will break if you

1. Play games in the vertical position (Which you are supposed to be able to do)
2. Don't have more than a foot or 2 of clearance behind the system
3. If the console sits on the carpet
4. you don't blow the dust out of your power brick.

and the fifth and final one, they will break eventually from too much play cause of cheap a** disc drives, or just from a Random RRoD.

N64s only seem break if you

1. You take them apart (Yeah I don't think nintendo wanted you to do that)
2. Pour any kinda liquid into it
3. Power Surge

/\/\/\/\/\/\ These apply to the 360 as well.

Ps3's break if do most of those things too, nothing is immune to damage.

N64's list was supposed to be completly obvious.

as for the 360's list applying to the PS3, no, I doubt it, Blu-ray drive is not cheap, PS3 has no Power brick, the system runs perfectly fine on the Carpet and vertical position, and of course lasers in ANYTHING will burn out eventually, but the 360 drives refuse to eject .

(Like a buddy of mine's 360 has this problem) and another 360 I have in my basement disc drive won't spin up discs and when you physically try to spin it, it has quite a bit of resistance.

Xbox 360's were terrible with hardware failures, but the newest ones haven't been nearly as bad. If you buy one now, you shouldn't have any troubles.

better take a better look at this

http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQfgtpZ1QQfrp ... assZm21215

that seller of those $100 PS3s prices skyrocket up near Retail once the time is almost up, typical ebay.

I knew it was too good to be true, not even the 20GB go for that cheap.

NOTICE. THIS POST APPLIES TO UK PRICES ONLY. US PRICES ARE USUALLY SIMILAR THOUGH. THIS POST IS ENTIRELY FAIR OPINION AND UNBIASED ALSO.

Xbox 360 hardware failures have been slightly lower as of recent. Although the system quite easily has it's shortcomings.. and does Sony's. READ ON

Controller
a lot of people prefer the controller on 360, I don't really care though.. but first things first. The PS3 controller is a nice lightweight, yet sturdy shape. The PS3 controller has an internal rechargable battery that lasts for a while and takes no time to charge. Xbox 360 controller takes 2 AA batteries ouch. This problem is rectified with the Play + Charge Kit, sounds great right? Well the Play + Charge Kit has awful battery life, yet drops you £12. How much does a 360 controller cost? £32... how much does a PS3 controller cost? £40.. oh wait. You get 2 of them in that package if Rumble isn't your thing. Sony: 1, Microsoft: 0

Online
One of the core components of the Next-Gen Era is online. When the PS3 was first released, the online was pretty poor. These days, you can quite easily play a game of Call of Duty 4 with no issues at all. The Ingame-XMB update will be released soon so you can check your friend lists and easily join their games instantly, PS3 has the advantage of it's online being free, and believe me, £40 ($40) in US isn't very much money per year for Xbox Live, but as soon as you go to PSN it is. Xbox 360 has more players online, yet PS3 has more mature players. Nobody really wins here. Sony: 1, Microsoft: 0

Games
Who would of thought you play games on your console? Here, the 360 quite clearly has a larger library of games, and one thing I noticed, there are a lot of games on PS2 and 360.. because of the later launch of PS3 they don't get on PS3 sadly (NFS: Most Wanted, Burnout Revenge, Battlefield 2), most of these games are quite missable though. The only other problem being the delays, games such as Alone in the Dark (are we missing much? haha) and Rainbow Six Vegas were delayed before finally hitting PS3, this hasnt occured much as it used to, Unreal Tournament 3 being one to hit PS3 first over 360.. if it comes out on 360. 360 Exclusives are more in numbers but vary in quality, there is your Halos, your Gears of War but these games are basically old hat now, Halo 3 you'll be lucky to even get a decent game out of these days, it's all Call of Duty 4, although Gears of War will probably reclaim it's crown with the November release for Gears of War 2. PS3 exclusives are fewer in numbers but greatly vary in quality, Bioshock loses it's exclusivity when it hits PS3 later this year, PS3 blosters it's line of exclusives with the pheomional Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted, Lair, the upcoming Killzone, and Haze if you like generic FPS games. Microsoft seem to have more games, but not many great exclusives hitting soon, with the exception of Fable 2, so Sony still get half a point. Sony: 1 1/2, Microsoft: 1

Extra Features
Not everybody wants to watch High-Def films or cure cancer with their consoles, but it's always nice? One of the biggest features of the PS3 is easily built-in Blu-Ray support. Don't know about anyone else but this is a HUGE advantage to me as I absolutely love films, and blu-ray really brings them out (watch Rambo 4), PS3 also has built-in WiFi, yeah so what? Yeah, you will be caring when you cant run that cable and Microsoft charge you through the roof for an inexpensive adaptor, PS3 also allows you to use your existing Bluetooth headsets on PS3, sadly, Microsoft except you to buy their crappy uncomfortable cheap build Headset... for £15, you get one free but unless your careful it won't last long, they do a wireless headset for £40, but the sound quality on both wired and wireless is terrible quality in and out sadly. Video playback on both consoles is not bad, 360 is extremely limited, upto allowing you to play DivX on 360, PS3 allows you to copy video files over to the hard drive of PS3. A feature sorely missing from 360. Sony easily get the point here. Sony: 2 1/2 Microsoft: 1

Backwards Comptablity (US)
First off, PS3 has no Backwards Compatablity in UK, so this applies to US owners.

If you have a 60GB PS3 (US), your easily set to enjoy your PS1 and PS2 games on your PS3. If you have an 80GB PS3 (US), then you wont be enjoying it quite as much as it's software, but it gets better. Microsoft are allowing you to play all your old Xbox games on 360.. thats where it takes a heavy downfall immediately, the BC is quite clearly broken and many games are just "what?", even the two halos glitch occassionally and suffer from bad framerates, it's not really excusable. 0.5% of XBox games might actually run properly if your lucky... Sony easily win this one. Sony: 3 1/2, Microsoft: 1

Reliablity
Yeah you dropped a lot of money on that precious console of yours.. how long do you have it? We have all heard of RROD, that problem is quite easily rectified these days, with many newer units not being issues of it, PS3.. no such thing really. Not once have I heard of a PS3 breaking to be honest, not to mention PS3 is quite clearly efficently cooled, even though it's large. Because Microsoft offer 3 year protection and cover on the RROD for the 360, they get a point for being considerate and there for their customers. Sony: 4 1/2, Microsoft: 2

Lasting Appeal
So you bought your console, when are you going to get bored of it? Both companies have shown no signs of ever winding down game development on either platform, although PS3 is looking to take the lifespan win (360 will be 5 years old in 2010), with PS3 looking for the 10-year life span that PS2 is headed for (that would take it till 2010.. seems plausable for PS2 to live that long), obviously the PS4 will come somewhere in that lifespan. probably 6 or 7 years in. The PS3 has many features that will take up time if your not into gaming, you can watch a film on Blu-Ray if you want (360 plays HD-DVDs, dead format, and everyone has a DVD player nothing special), 360 has a store where you can rent HD films from and watch them, this would be a good service but the selection of films available is absolutely dire, they were advertising for The Good German a few months back available.. I mean come on what? Microsoft seem to have switched the focus to games from trying to get a good movie format out on 360.. if your a movie nut this will probably be offputting, but you could just buy a 360 + Bluray Player if you really wanted to anyway. If you want a blast from the past, 360 has arcade classics... overpriced arcade classics. And XBox Originals that are slightly expensive.. especially the warning about games not playing correctly, not really confidence inspiring that message isn't.. for fans of retro on their PS3, Sony offers downloadable PS1 games at £3.50 each, at that price, your getting some great retro action at a very cheap price. Sony easily wins this one. Sony: 5 1/2, Microsoft: 2

It seems like i'm just being biased towards Sony all the time, but if you actually took the time to read all that, then you would realize that it's all valid points raised, Microsoft have something good on their hands, but Sony just offer everything and don't charge much more.

First point, the Xbox's live has a lot more features than the Ps3's, downloading movies, downloading demos, buying arcade games, watching trailers, downloading Xbox original games, going on msn, just a sample of the things the Xbox network is capable of. Ps3's have the feature of downloading demos, mp3's from game soundtracks, trailers and downloading ps1 games. And as far as maturity goes, there are young kids playing every console, don't act like it's limited to the Xbox. Those higher numbers act like a filter, so that you only get an immature person every 4 or 5 games (depending on the title of course, more immature people play Call of Duty 4 than Gears of War).

I believe the Xbox deserves a point there.

Second point, the backwards compatibility. You're seriously biased if you think that the 360 has terrible backwards compatibility, so far they've made almost all the popular Xbox titles available to be played (disk, OR downloaded online, go Xbox). Excluding games like Battlefield 2, or Burnout because they're for the 360 as well, so it wouldn't make sense for them to lose cash on purpose. You're really underestimating the Xbox's power to emulate Xbox titles, I've played through numerous campaign levels, and online games of Halo 2, not even a hiccup as far as frame rate went, and glitches? Halo 2 was always full of glitches, no more on the 360 than on the original Xbox though. 0.5% my ass, it's be harder to find one of the supported games that doesn't work.

Point #2

Reliability, I know you gave Xbox a point here, but it should still be said the lifespan of today's Xbox is a lot higher than the lifespan of the first revisions. And as far as Ps3's go, yeah, they're pretty stable machines, but not unbreakable, they break too, and where's Sony when they do break? I don't see them replacing the Psps that just happen to break one day after warranty expires..

My last part, Games. You're right on the money with some of what you say, but just to let you know, Halo and Gears of War are still alive and kicking, jump on live for a second and see. Halo 3 with no decent games? They release a new game type for the weekend that caters to all the players, not to mention the fairly often addition of permanent game types to their roster. Even if you're talking about the children that like to play, more often than not, you're not able to tell the age of the player by how the play, most of these kids are pretty good at Halo 3, god knows they've played enough games.. That's only mentioning a few games there, look back to the launch titles that came out with the 360, Call of duty 3, Dead or Alive 4 (the ones I own), I jumped on live just a week or so ago to find that both of these games still have massive amounts of online players. None of the Xbox's games are old hat, they've got plenty of following from the players that enjoy the games. Don't assume.
Just released exclusive games that rock: Ninja Gaiden 2, Mass Effect.
Exclusives coming to the Xbox: Gears of war 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Dead or Alive 5.

360 is still going strong, if not stronger than before.

The majority of your points can be argued, including the controller, you didn't mention the battery life of the 360 controller with AA's, which is rated at 40 hours, compared to the 30 hours of the Ps3's. And as far as price goes, people pay more for things that are better, I know I do, and if you need any proof of how bad the Ps3 controller is compared to the 360, take a peek at the popularity of the PS360 controller. It wouldn't have gotten half as many page views if the Ps3 controller was superior. Not to mention how much people were willing to pay for it ;)

You may not think you're biased towards the Ps3, but you are. Just like I'm biased towards the Xbox. My final score in all of those categories would have been
Ps3: 3 Xbox: 4

The Ps3 has it's better qualities, and the 360 has it's better qualities. But if you want to be unbiased, you're gonna have to start listing more of the Xbox's good qualities, and more of the Ps3's bad.
