Another Music thread

Now on my surround sound system (TV Computer, not laptop speakers) I can hear how excellently perfect that is. Not quite professional, but damn close enough for a measly $500 bucks.

Ahem...

That's tops!

So now, help with choosing the right one. I'm not even sure what I'm looking for.

I added a sucky acoustic song because the chords sounded cool in Drop B tuning.

That's another problem: Tuning an acoustic to Drop B accurately. I need it for a -Tool -The Pot- Acoustic Version (Titled "Black Kettle"). It sounds very little like the original tool song, actually. But still, I need drop B so I can sing to it, it's just out of my range.

Also, singing. Where can I find help on dynamics. You can tell by the song my dynamic singing needs work. Also, I have tiny lungs!

Well what do you want to do now? and what can you see yourself needing in the future?

Drop B needs a thicker string really than a standard low E. Like on 7 string guitars.

2) I want to buy one of the kind of things you have, but don't really know what I'm looking for still.

1) no what was odd was my post not showing up, i even went to edit it and the text was still all there

The song was rather good.

2) This is what i use. That ones going for a good price, but you could probably find one a bit cheaper. However if buy one you'll still need a Mixing desk, and you'll need a desk with Direct outs for each channel if you want to record several tracks at once.

Also, if you want to put the tracks onto a computer, you'll need an ADAT card for your PC. That will let you record all 8 tracks onto the computer. Be on the look out for a "Marian Marc A" card, as they are quite good. Didnt spot any of the right kind of cards in my quick ebay swoop now (except for this but its a bit pricey) but they come up every now and again (or at least the do on ebay.co.uk).

I think I'm going to hold off on this sort of thing until I have an album. I have a tendency to quit before I finish.

I visited the local best music store (They're the only one that carries fender. Apparently if you carry Ibanez you're not allowed to carry fender.)

They had several used (and cheap: $150-$500) Foxtex brand Digital Multi-trackers, no firewire outputs though. USB. They also had a bunch of Yamaha USB Mixing Studios.(MW8CX was one) and some LTO AMX-140s

I want to make sure these send out each input track as multiple output tracks.

Where to start? Wanna have some fun and keep your minds sharp for school? Research!

Sounds like some good stuff, but you got to watch out for the USB, on cheaper desks it will just be left and right out. Firewire ones tend to usually always be multi track out. (not always back in though).

Also just added a new song i did the other day my pure volume.

To Anyone: About the mixers.. You say that its multi out. Does that mean that if I were to go into GarageBand or Audacity, does that mean that each instrument would get its own input line thing?(the visual representation of the sound). Or would they all play, but be recorded on one input thing?

Why cant I ever remember that its called a track? It's not even a hard word to remember

But thanks. Thats exactly what I needed to know. Is that for USB and Firewire? Or just firewire?

Firewire is almost always multi track (i havent come across one that isnt yet)

USB can be, but usaully only on more expensive models, USB out is often just the main left and right out form the desk.

Firewire = Drums on one track, bass on another guitar on another etc etc

USB (if its just left and right) = All things going into the desk will only be recorded as a single mono or stereo track.

1) That's not in Drop B, loosening the strings that much added way too much buzz. What you hear is standard tuning on a 12 string acoustic. I think.

2) I think I broke a bone or two in my wrist. It's been getting increasingly more painful over the last week or two, and now is swollen. I don't know, either way it won't stop me from playing guitar, I'll just need some narcotics.

3) Multi-out is definitely a necessity.
