With an unmodded screen some people have complained about the screen being dark, it takes somewhere between 500-750mA. As for performance there really isnt much differnece as I can see outside of battery life.

Thanks sparkfist. I am expecting the screen anytime now. I got it for $37 on eBay brand new. I dunno if I am going to mod it. I have the book and it seems like a lot of things could go wrong.
The LED mod is optimal, but some PSOne LCD's won't work with it, as the resistor jump doesn't make a difference. This happened with my SNESp, as I had to use a different flourescent light. The unmodded PSOne screen uses a whopping 900mA! An LED modded screen uses only 330mA. This is an incredible jump in power savings.

The only way to find out is to try the resistor mod. If the screen increases in brightness, then you're good to go. If not, find another way to save power.

what sort of switch do you use? A STSP seems to be the logical choice to me. Did you put it in line with the power to the LCD or what?
I used an on/off or what you called a sp/st switch. Though I used it to turn the "jump the thingy" mod on and off, but it could easily be adapted to turn on/off the backlight or whatever you want.
