The thing is if you need more light you many cameras can have a larger lamp attached to it, I'd just be sure to get a hologen or (more expencive) LED one for more white light.

And White Balance I have that feture on my (old ass) Beta Max camcoreder. I thougt it was for setting true colors not adjusting to the color of the light. Guess I learned something today.

On thing Jack to keep an eye out for is a quaility stabliser. I cant rememeber how many times my dad has critisised the Sony cams that came out after his. The Hi-8 he has uses a gyroscopic mechonisium to keep the view steady well maby newer ones modify the image itself to make it apear to be steable. This is really just useful if you dont plan to use a pod of any kind ot ensure the camera's steady.

I plan on using a tripod. Also the funny thing is Im filming only parts of the movie because Im in a lot of it. I am directing the shots though eh whatever. Also should my film be analog or digital in nature. Good camcorders are cheaper when they are analouge. Digial ones are like3,000

I've been looking and this one looks good. It used to be professional. Its SVHS so its good quality analouge. Manual Focus mic in.

My only concern is that in the end I am goning to edit it on a computer and burn it to a dvd. Origanly being analouge will this hurt its quality?

Thats more of your personal preference, as even Ben's critisised the whole digintal wave of movies. DV is really high up there, if your want to best analoge I think you shoulf look for one that has it uncomprssed the thing is that will take a lot of room on the media and your hard drive. Digital will be easier to inport to you computer and edit.

Well I have a 200gb firewire hdd for my computer. I think thats enough for about 2 hours of movie

If you are transfering the movie to a computer via a capture card, it shouldnt if the card is good quality. Of couse, everything does degrade a bit every time to go analog to digital, or digital to analog - sorta like a photocopier. The image gets worse every time you copy it. But for $50, Id say thats not too bad.

Well I found a great way to get free actors. Say you will have a refreshment table (it really works). I'll start filming once I get my camera.

I didn't rag on DV! I rag on DVD! There's a big difference!

200 gigs of hard drive space will hold 13.8 hours of DV video (data rate of about 4 megs/second) I'd suggest having 5-6 times as much space as you intend your final movie to be. (so 200 gig should be OK) Usually you don't capture EVERY TAKE of a shot but you might capture the 2 best for options, and of course that clip will be longer on the ends so you have editing room. This increases the total amount of drive space used.

For PW I shot about 36 hours of video, and about 120 gigs worth went onto my computer (about 8 hours worth) For a 90 minute movie! (but I do 5-10 takes for every shot minimum and there's lots of support files/FX renders)

I would suggest getting a DV camera with a Firewire. Then the actual data is sent to your computer and there's no generational loss. With an analog camera the analog video must be converted using an analog capture card (not easy to find these days) and you'll have a generation loss.

Oh, I also WOULDN'T recommend getting a SVHS or anything VHS camera. Couple reasons:

1) It's OLD and even though SVHS has more lines of res it doesn't compare to DV

2) The tape transport (rewinding, fast forwarding, checking what you just shot) is WAY WAY WAY better and faster on DV cameras compared to VHS.

3) Camera is physically bigger which can limit your shot composition, especially when you not using sets with removable walls!

So like a sony handycam would be fine? Like a nice one. Cause they all use firewire. I've always wanted to make a film and I have a good screenplay. Shakey shots are not a problem cause Im going to use a tripod as much as possible. I have like $200 I guess Ill save up a little more and buy one on eBay.
