It's a good PDA, but from what I've heard it's basically gimped because Apple's not releasing the development kit until something like February. And apparently it has a relatively high signal to noise ratio on the headphone jack.
If you really want a PDA, look into Windows Mobile devices. I have a Dell Axim X30 mid, and it works for videos and the occasional 'net fix (especially with a 2 gig SD card). Problem is, most WM devices and Palms are big, and they're really not that great for multimedia. (A lot of noise in the headphones and playing videos eats up the battery, even with hardware acceleration.)
If you want to carry around some music, get an iPod Nano. It's plenty big enough for a few CDs worth of music.
If you want to carry around a crapload of music, get an iPod Classic 80 gig ($250), or if you really want to carry around the entire Columbia Records library, just get money for Christmas and add $50 to get the 160 gig model.
If you want to squeeze as much as you can out of your gift allowance, go on their online store and search for "refurbished". You can get a last-gen 8 gig Nano for $150 with free shipping.
Why am I pushing the old Nano? Because it's small enough that you don't think twice about taking it with you, they've got good sound quality, and none of that extra gimmicky BS you really don't need on a music player. And why Apple products in general? iTunes. Plain and simple, it's great of you're only looking for a couple songs, or if you're looking for more off-beat music you probably can't find at Borders. (I still buy real CDs because they're lossless. High bitrate compressed audio is still compressed, after all.)
Their products aren't complete crap like everyone makes them out to be. Sheesh.
Avoid the Sandisk Sansa mXXX line; my cousin bought one. The first was DOA, the second died when he used the recorder (or used the software to update the firmware or something), and he can't use the radio or microphone on the third or else it will suffer the same demise as the last one.
I really don't want anything besides games and maybe a ping pong table, and the games I can buy with money from work; the ping pong table I can go without. (I just mooch off my friend's anyways!) Anyways, for those of you who own the Touch (8 gig is what I'm shooting for), what do you think of it? If you don't own it, what do you think of it? And seeing as an 8 gig Touch would eat up my $300 very quickly, is there any alternatives you would recommend, or points to make me reconsider? Thanks guys!

To be honest with you, I really don't need it; I've got a laptop, a PSP, and a cheapo mp3 player for exercising and the like, but the Touch is pretty smexy, and I really can't think of any other items I want at the moment. Backed up on games to play, getting a new TV, and I'm in good health. So why not?
