Please check these PS2 portable power calculations

Post by Damage Control »

I am planning on making a PS2 Portable. Not an ultraportable, or even a handheld, but an extremely simple one. So, before I spend $300 on parts, I need to know if my setup will work.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Parts:
PS2 Slimline

PS2 8" LCD

Specs Link: http://www.commentcamarche.net/guide-ac ... -technique

Universal DVD Player battery
Link: http://www3.shopping.com/xPC-CTA-Digita ... ur-Battery
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Specs:

PS2 Slimline
8.5volts
5.4amps

8" LCD
8.5volts
10 watts

Battery
9volts
8amps
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Setup

1. Plug the screen in the back of the PS2, since the bottom of the screen (I hope) SHOULD look like this:

Link: http://www.chinavasion.com/product_thum ... =300&h=106

2. Plug the battery into the back of the LCD

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Calculations

The PS2 and the LCD are connected in parallel
A 9volt battery should work with these 8.5volt components

10 watts/8.5 volts=1.17 amps (this conversion is for the LCD)

1.17amps(LCD) + 5.4amps (PS2) = 6.57amps

So, 8amps(battery) / 6.57amps(components) = 1.21 hours of playtime
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please provide feedback if this setup will work, and if my calculations are correct so I can go ahead and order the needed parts

Keep in mind though that the PSTwo (Slim) does not regularly go that high in consumption, so you may get more time of gameplay.

Thanks for the tip. (I assume that you agreed that this setup will work) I just got an even better idea.

This battery is 20 amps, so...

1.21 hours /8*20 = 3 hours at least

I'll see if I can find something even better...

Omg, that thing is a beast and a half  Oh well, an hour and a half is good enough... and small enough :)

Edit: Well, it isn't THAT huge. I might actually use it.

Ps2's don't use anywhere near that many amps. And neither will the screen if you LED mod it.

That 20aH battery would give you.. probably a good 7 or 8 hours.

Okey-dokey then. So I'm ordering the parts... waiting for them to ship in... hooking up the setup... and trying to make it as portable as possible.
If the shipping is fast, I'll start posting my progress in a week or so. If it's slow, then probably a month.

Wish me luck.
