There's craploads on Youtube.

I'm sort of into it. I'm sort of weak, so...

I really don't like you...

There was a guy here that was into that type of thing. I remember he said he was struck by lightning and in all sorts of other accidents (related and unrelated to parkour and the like). Don't remember his username, don't think I've seen him around, and don't feel like scrolling the memberlist.
But maybe finding and contacting him would be a good idea.

From past experiences, I can say that you definitely don't have to be bulked to do this stuff - just need a good base :D!

Hey, when you are young, getting fit is easy.

For oldies like ben? its a tad harder.

As far as exercises go, I would suggest you just start with the basics. Learn some good and varied ab exercises. You need a strong torso for that kind of stuff. Also, work on push-ups and pull-ups for a while. Make sure that you are getting full extension for each repetition, and try several different stances, from wide to narrow. Varying your arm width varies which muscles get worked.

And try to pick up the pace on your runs. For what you are wanting to do, you don't need to run ten miles every day, but you should try to push really hard on the three miles you do run.

I realize that these are boring suggestions, but it's important to start with the basics and build from there.

But be careful starting an exercise program.

something tells me that joining martial arts would be good for this kind of stuff. i was in tkd for awhile (before college ugh) and i, surprisingly, got really flexible and could do spinning and jumping kicks. ....not so much now.. but i can still kick someone in the face with ease. :)

Tons. Just search "parkour". There's a hilarious one, (forgot the name), where there's a bunch of little kids jumping off curbs pretending its free running.

I always wanted to try wall flips, but I'm too attached to my neck.

Pun not intended, but hilarious nonetheless?

Me and a couple of my freinds do some of porkour, we dont climb building, but all my classes are on the 2nd floor of the school, and we take stairs to go downstars, and its about 30-40 feet down from the railing, so when we get bored we jump from the railing down, although now we do it less since they put camera's by the stairs! :(

I didn't ready ANY of the posts that are in this thread, except the main post with the questions.

I do parkour on a regular basis.

There's some things to consider before and when your doing parkour.

1) Know your limits. (Let me elaborate. By that I mean, if you think you can make the jump, dont do it. Only do stuff that your 100% sure that you can physcally and mentally do.)

2) Don't be afraid to ask for help or a spotter.

3) Always bring a freind when parkouring. As if you hurt yourself, that freind can be your ticket to the hospital. Im serious here folks. You can die from doing parkour the wrong way. A freind can save your life.

4) Know that some places arent right to do parkour in. (Like, if the area is unsafe, or illegal to be on.)

5) Don't run! (When you get stopped by a cop or security guard, dont run. It only makes things worse. Parkour is NOT illegal, but running from a law enforcer will make things hard. If the cops ask you to leave or talks to you, just be polite and agree with anything they say. I've only ever heard of 1 case where a tracuer/parkour-er got fined money. And it was only $100).

6) If your not sure about something don't do it. (Theres a lot of risk to parkour. Not just injuring yourself, but injuring others or their properties.) If you damage someone elses property, it's best to tell them. They will probably be pissed off, but its better to tell then getting caught.

7) Always stretch BEFORE and AFTER doing parkour. Or you will be sore. You do not want to pull any muscles. Trust me on this one. My tendons in my ankled ripped/teared and healed "twisted". I need an operation, as whenever I try to climb a wall or do anything thats "too" physcal, I crunch over in pain. The reason for that is, I didn't stretch correctly one day, and I landed wrong.

8 ) Always roll from a jump that is taller then 6ft. (give or take.)You will not know how to roll correctly for a while, so dont try too much stuff until then. Don't say that you know how to roll correctly, as I highly doubt you can. Rolling takes skill. If you don't roll, you will damage your feet, and knee caps. (Even if you dont feel it, trust me. Over time, you will.)

9) Don't do parkour if your injured or sick. You need 100% concentration when doing parkour. As your body will get hurt if you don't.

10) Do the frog! (By that I mean, if you jump off something thats like 5 feet high, land like a frog. If you dont know what that means, look at a frog before its about to hop. You want to land like that. The steps to land like that are: When your about to land, land on the "balls" of your feet. (Like the lumps that are on the upper part of your bottom side of your foot.) After doing that, immediatly put your hands out in front of you, so your hands also take some shock of the landing. Remember, never ever EVER land full footed. You will damage your foot, very badly.)

11) They'res many ways to do stuff in parkour. Like, many ways to vault and such. Try to make up your own moves and such. Just remember, you need to roll or land like a frog from most jumps.

12) It's best NOT to listen to music when doing parkour. As music can distract you, and/or impare your decisions. Also it can put you in danger, as you cant hear people or traffic.)

Here's some websites to check out.

www.pkto.ca (A Toronto parkour website. Even if your in the US, or another country, check this website out. They have forums and such, and you can ask questions. One of theyre many trained parkour experts will be glad to awnser your questions.)

www.parkour.net (Awsome website)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parkour (Good wikipedia about parkour.)

Also, you should watch a movie called: District B13 (Or just B13, in some countries.)

That movie has David Belle in it, David Belle INVENTED parkour. Watch his moves closely, and I assure you, you will like it. Its one of the best parkour inspired movies. (Be warned. B13 is in french, unless you watch it on a big channel like the movie network.)

Here's a clip from it.

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid ... 0328106389

David Belle is the guy running from the other guys. (David Belle is the guy who kicks down the door.)

That clip makes me want to parkour a lot. Its very neat.

I havent been into the whole climbing buildings thing, dont get me wrong, I like it but its just not my thing. I prefer to do flips and whatnot, "tricking" as some call it. I havent been able to try anything new lately because I damaged my heels at a pep-assembly at school a few weeks ago.

I have to say that it was worth it because in between the two sessions, for lack of a better word, the cheerleaders were on the gym floor taking turns doing back handsprings and an occasional backflip. Then I hopped in line and just did a round off to a backflip. Then later I did a frontflip. As the second session was about to begin, my friend an I did a running-rounnd off-backflip. I had too much speed and over rotated, thus landing on my heels on a hardwood floor with no shoes on. From the impact and excess of speed i fell and slid a few feet on my back. Then to finish it off, I did a pop-up(I dont know what else to call it) with 3 consecutive front handsprings. :)

Alright I'm done rambling now, but once my heels heal I am gonna start flipping again.

What kind of flips and or tricks can you guys do?

Front Flip, Side Flip

Front layout, Side layout.

(Flip = When you jump, and rotate and tuck your body into a ball, and then quickly release and land on your feet.)

(Layout = Jumping, then rotating without tucking. So basically doing a flip but not curling up in the air.).

Layouts = easy. a lot of people get them confused with flips.

I can also do a Sky Flamigo twist. (A move, my freind chase made up.)

Its basically where you flip and then spin your body to the left or right while flipping. So basically doing a spinning flip.)
