Fine, here.XPCportables wrote:Why do you insist on getting an overpriced core2 duo? I am not referring to getting a cheaper C2D, I am referring to getting that AMD that I suggested. It outperforms that C2D on your list for near $100 less mobo included. Contrary to popular belief, the Core2 Duo is not the god of CPUs, that title would go to the Core2 Extreme/ quad, but in the lower end of the spectrum AMD has Intel beat for the price.
Build me a Kickass PC!

Why's a Core 2 Duo "inferior" to an older AMD architecture?
It's only $180 more than that other bundle.

Because those comparisons are between the High end C2D versus the athlon FX 62, which is essentially identical to the Windsor Athlon X2 5200 that I suggested. He is getting a low end conroe model, and he is paying $100 more for it. I have seen performance tests between his C2D and my Athlon X2 that say that the X2 outruns that model of C2D.

Here's a computer build that I will probably do. It's $1250 but that includes hard drive and burner so you could get around the $1000 mark with it.

Isn't the FX 62 the same as the X2 5600, not 5200?XPCportables wrote:athlon FX 62, which is essentially identical to the Windsor Athlon X2 5200
I'm personally an AMD fanboy. Intel wastes money on commercials, I've never seen an AMD commercial, so I know my money isn't going to making commercials that don't make sense. I do have computers with Intel processors, but all new ones are going to be AMD (if I get my way).
Core 2 Duo procs owns all AMD procs out now. End of story.
This is basically a mid-range gaming computer:

You can of course get the lesser versions of the video card and a cheaper PS.

Tom's Hardware doesn't even have 5200's on their CPU comparison, but the 5600 is always identical to the FX 62...XPCportables wrote:According to everything that I have read, the only difference is clock speed, which can easily be fixedvskid wrote:Isn't the FX 62 the same as the X2 5600, not 5200?XPCportables wrote:athlon FX 62, which is essentially identical to the Windsor Athlon X2 5200

Even the X2 6000 is still a better deal than that C2D

Do you think investing in a Killer NIC Network Card would help a lot? I've read reviews of these things and people are saying that their FPS has gone up by almost 30 FPS and Ping has been cut in half to around 25 MS
That ridiculous, I might add that to my list of upgrades if you guys think it will help...

I think they are a waste of money, those results are not typical and with a good processor I think that integrated Ethernet will work fine (just like sound cards, who uses those any more?)Harshboy wrote:Do you think investing in a Killer NIC Network Card would help a lot? "Gaming" NIC cards are a gimmick. You're better off investing in a decent Netgear gigabit card if you go to LAN parties. (Even then you won't get gigabit speeds if the rest of the equipment is only 100-base.) Onboard 10/100 is fine for internet play, since your modem can only run at a fraction of those speeds.
"Adding FPS" with a network card is a load of BS. The only reason you may get a couple more frames per second is if you have a really crappy system and all of the networking is done in software. Other than that a NIC card isn't going to affect video.
