I like the current skin. It's simple.

Looks just fine as-is, no need for anything different.

I'm all for a rule that no one can ask for a new skin unless they have something ready for us to consider.

I 100% agree. Besides, what's wrong with the current skin? Sure, it's bland, but it's easy on the eyes and it's not full of that flair crap that you see on many other forums *cougdigitpresscough*.

It is because 50% of other forums I go to have a darker skin so it dose hurt my eyes... :(

Maybe we can choose in out settings if we want the basic skin or a different one?

I think we need a good skin, so when people come here they can go, "Yep, im on Ben's forums!" Not, "This is just some random crappy forum."

When I go to forums with a "cool" skin (unreadable, burns eyes, etc.), I think "Wow, this place sucks so bad they had to make it so that your eyes bleed when you look at it so you can't tell that they don't have anything cool".

My sentiments exactly. I've actually left forums and gone elsewhere for information when they switched to an ugly format.

Almost every phpbb skin:
  • - Has a color scheme so garish your eyeballs explode
    - Uses images for everything, even solid colors
    - Looks like it was coded by someone who has absolutely no web design experience
    - Regulates the forum's width. ([diety] I hate this.) Most of the time they fail at this, expanding long links or large images deep to one side so the entire page is ruined. (You think an ebay link on SubSilver is bad enough? Tyr ahving the link start 600+ pixels to the right.)
    - Uses SubSilver's interface buttons on a contrasting background, so the artificial dithering in the GIF looks blocky and horrible.
    - Follows the style guidelines of AOL and Geocities homepages circa 1997
    - Uses specialized fonts that look like crap when my machine substitutes Times New Roman
    - Has too much or too little contrast, rendering text unreadable or migrane-inducing.
    - Is a half-assed hack of SubSilver or another skin (which is also a half-assed hack job.)
SubSilver fills the browser window, has enough contrast to be readable without being horrifying, and it obviously wasn't coded by a monkey with a 486. Besides, forums should be about the content, not about how shiny the interface is.

Yup, same here. It's really a pain sometimes. Trying to read things at Christmas time especially!
