Hi there,

First post here. :D
Been reading this forum for a while now and decided to sign up.

I was wondering if somebody could help me out with some questions I have regarding building an RGB amplifier for use in a white PC-Engine (Jap version of the TurboGrafx).
Whilst browsing over at gamesx.com I came across an article that described how to tap an RGB signal from the PCE. It also mentions that it's worthwhile adding an RGB amp. to boost the signal. The article has a schematic of the amp required. See here:

My main question is how do I figure out the required Wattage for the resistors based on this info? I don't want to end up using the wrong resistors for obvious reasons.

Also, I am a bit unfamiliar with the symbols that I THINK indicate capacitors. I'm talking about the symbols labelled with the values 10 microFarad 16V and 220 microFarad 16V. Am I correct in assuming these are indeed capacitors?

Hope somebody can help me with this as I really wanna get started and learn more about the world of electronics.

Im not sure for wattage... Maybe .5 watts will do? Someone will know... Anyway, those are capacitors your talking about.

yeah, you got the capacitors right. They're electrolytical
The symbols they use for them are wierd though :)

wow you guys are quick!! :)

HK-47: Yeah, I was thinking about playing it save and use a fairly large wattage, but somehow that makes me feel a tad uncomfortable. Also, I want to keep this device as small as possible as it'll have to be fitted inside a white PCE. Having removed the RF-encoder and socket did clear out a nice space for it though. :)

Gannon: Excellent. :) Just out of interest, how can you tell they are electrolytic capacitors and not say for instance tantalum? I'm guessing by their specific Farad/Volt combo?

there are a lot of fun things you can do with big electrolytic capacitors (im talkin BIG too, over 400V) check out www.powerlabs.com i know this is out of place kinda but hey it involves capacitors dont it :P

Nope, if you look at the schematic there is a little + sign on one side of each capacitor, that's how I know that they're electrolytic :)
