New Genesis / Mega Drive portable

Post by andoba »

Well, first of all, that's my first portable. I don't think that I'll have serious problems with it, I have some electronics knowledge and stuff.

What I want to do, is a genny inside a GameBoy case. I'll use A and B as A and B ( ), and Select as C.

It's going to be like this:

- Black matt color.
- Radica mask rom + card edge connector.
- Headphone port, USB female port for A/V output (1 = Vsig, 2 = Asig, 3 = Vss, 4 = N/C).
- Power jack (+5V).
- 4 AA batteries.
- The cart edge connector is going to be placed on the back, facing down.

My equipement is:

- JBL 14S soldering iron.
- JBL flux.
- 0.5 mm soldering fluid with flux on the inside.
- AWG 30 single-wire.
- Case.
- Paint.
- Sanding paper.

I'm getting soon:

- Radica Mega Drive (japanese version), ships from Play Asia Monday.
- 2.5" or similar LCD active matrix screen, that takes composite.
- Desoldering pump.
- Transparency paper (for Mega Drive logo, etc...).
- A new TriWing screwdriver (I lost mine  ).

So well, if you have some suggestion, please tell me! I'll start with this Monday, and post updates as soon as posible!

Cheers, people!

Good luck with that, but the cartridges are a bit big for a gameboy case.

Also, select as C? 0_o

Good idea of using a gameboy case though; I hate seeing these gigantor cases with tiny 2.5" screens- if you're going to use a big case, use a big screen.

Good to see a new Genesis coming. Any pics of your progress to share?

Why the JP Radica? You do realize you won't be able to play a lot of games on that (any US game with region lock out like Gunstar Heroes, Sonic 3, etc.) and there is no way to change the region of the system :/ You might want to reconsider that.

Uh, I don't care, I live in Spain, and near there there aren't any Radica's out. The last time I saw them was last year.

And, since I have japanese Mega Drive since I was born (from my sister), nearly all my games are japanese. That isn't a big problem.
