Screen Voltage problems. PLEASE HELP!!!

Screen Voltage problems. PLEASE HELP!!!

when i have the screen plugged into the battery, it pulls about 7.5 volts (7.5 volt battery) but as soon as i turn on my n64 (also connected to battery) the voltage drops to like 5 volts on the screen making the screen not work anymore. do i need another battery? or... please help

How many amps is your battery. you'll need at least smething in the 2000 mah range.

Maybe a dumb question but did you charge it?

Or maybe you shorted something on the n64 causing the + and - to be shorted when connected.

i have the power adapter hooked to the battery which is hooked to everything so i assume that its running off the wall adapter and charging the battery, but maybe thats hooked up wrong. but you know its the strangest thing, when i hook the multimeter to the wires going to the screen, it reads as negative volts (i used red and black wires)but when its hooked up "backwards" it reads positive volts, maybe i have the probes on the volt meter on backwards. like, mario kart will load and play for a second, like the title screen, but when the voltage drops past 6 volts the screen doesnt display the image anymore, but its still on.

sounds like it isn't getting enough amps. Wait did you use a dc-dc. Capacitors charge. Look in your dc-dc circuit. Specificly the capacitors.

i'm not using a dc-dc, i found this power adapter at walmart that plugs into a car 12 v and has adjustable output 3-12 v and i have it set to 3.

oh. nintendo 64 is pretty sensitive. it really shouldn't be very much different then 3.3v it should be between 3.2-3.4

the n64 works fine, its just the screen is not getting enough voltage, would the n64 not getting 3.3v lower the voltage coming from the battery?

I think its your battery, the N64 would just not work or die if it didn't like the 3v, but since it comes on for a second, I'm almost positive its the battery. Check for shorts are the power switch(s), too.

Try something not Ni-Cad.

Have you tried a wall adapter, Ni-MH, or other battery (not alkaline) yet?

first of all, I see some confusion between mA and mAh again, the mAh does not tell you how much current a battery can provide (although I suppose it can be used as a rough index)

Ni-Cd batteries are pretty high current. just putting that out there.

Just hook it up to a beefier power supply (like from your PC - the red and yellow wires have 7v across them) and see if it works then.
