hacking ROMs
hey, does anyone know how to hack MAME roms? i thought of a great idea today, muppet kombat. what language(s) do I need to know?

If you use a console version you can use a program like Tile Layer Pro to change the sprites. (I don't know but every arcade game is probably different.) Text can be changed using a hex editor. It's not easy.
It helps if you start off with NES or GBO games and work your way up.

I learned from this guide:

It covers the basics and has a pretty handy color table for the NES pallete. Most of the tools it uses run in DOS but the same general ideas can be applied to Win32 programs.
Start off like everyone else: change stuff around in Super Mario Bros.

thats what I figured I would do, make hamburglar bros or something like that
question: When I look at the ROM, everything appears in a blue tint (the tiles) the game is still the same, but will this matter? everything is a red tint in the guide
EDIT: nevermind.
