First laptop...

First off, about me! I am not a noob in any way to electronics... nor to building cases and things.. *whew* glad I got that over...

Now I really wan to make a micro laptop, kinda like the Mini C64 project seen on HAD a little while ago. Now, I was wondering... I am going to use a PSone screen.. that sort of sets my main size small.. I want this to look professional... I got most of what I want set out... except

what guts I am going to put in it..

Now, my first though was an atari 2600, cut down to the costom 4 x 4" square.. then I though more about it and then thought of the atari 800. Then I could add a keyboard and basic on it... Then the graphics looked at me, also the rarety of this thing in Australia.. (were I live....) My attention then moved on.. to the NES and C64... which of these do you think would be best to chuck into a costom laptop? I would prefer to use an older system, one with good graphics.. and mabye (if the quality) mabye even a on-a-chip unit... how accurate are they at emulating a system? I think having a keyboard would be nice.. but not necessary..

What do people think? I have knolage in things.. and am looking for a bit of a chalange... any suggections?

No, not really, I was inspired by my own genius!
But what to gut it with... I am still going to do a N64 laptop later in the year... after I do a smaller more compact one nowish... any thoughts on that?

I think the NES on a chip would be pretty good in your case, if you can find one. Just remember, sometimes laptops aren't the best option when you can use "fixed" portables.

I'd say the C64: it can do many more things, in terms of peripherals and programming, where as the NES is just a general gaming platform, and would be more suitable as a handheld.

Did some googling... can somone give me some pictures / info about the SNES mobo?

With the C64, even though you can get it 'on a chip' I have never seen one in australia... I think that is the main issue with using that.

I will probably use one of the two mentioned above though... other than the picadore 64, has anyone else done major modding to a c64 on a chip? Even a portable out of it? Are there many issues with doing this to one?

ive seen a load of famiclones with keyboards and basic already loaded in you should look for one of them

no its because the famicom in japan actually was like a computer so it had a keyboard and basic among other things such as a mic in the controller. also snoacs are quite a rare thing. its not emulation at all its just technology from the late 80s made smaller with our knowledge today
