THATS NOT TRUE! ITS IMPOSSIBLE!
Sure, Santa owns most of the northern polar ice cap, and he could have mortgaged it, but he traded most of it to kids in exchange for box tops back in the 60s. Even if he still owned and mortgaged the land, it would only tide Santa over for about 20 Christmases before he'd be back in the hole again.
"What about the elves? Don't they make the toys?" you ask? Well, they used to be able to produce toys that would satisfy the children, back in the days where toys were simple and cheap to produce. However, thanks to mass marketing and the Happy Meal, children have developed a need for shiny, cheaply made name-brand action figures, toy guns, and electronic games. Now, Santa doesn't own any sweatshops in third world countries, and the elves unionized back in 1983, so each toy would cost approximately $85.52 to produce, including the supplies, licensing fees, and elfin benefit packages. Multiply that by 3 billion (a rough guess to the number of children in the world), and you wind up with a load of cash that has to come from somewhere. So, Santa decided to bite the bullet and have every parent chip in $20 or so, so he can buy the high-profile trinkets children demand in bulk, straight from the manufacturers. This economical measure allows all the children to get what they want, with minimal impact to the fat man's wallet.
But how does he pay for all the elves, who have now become in-house accountants, consultants, and lawyers? (Think "Elfin Dilbert".) Easy. Santa sold out to the Coca-Cola Company back in 1931. The cash they pay him for the use of his image mroe than covers the operating costs of the office (formerly known as the workshop). All the other Santa decorations you see are ripoffs, made without his consent. However, Santa doesn't mind. In an interview, he said Coca-Cola only pays him because he has to work with polar bears. Santa is quoted to have said "They'll kill you if you even look at them wrong. The money is merely compensation for psychological trauma and the occasional stray tranquilizer dart. HO! HO! HO!".

As I explained further up, Santa died almost 500 years ago, in the mid-sixteenth century.Rototiller wrote:SHUTTUP!
