Upgrade ram in psp, Theoretically?

I was wondering... theoretically, if you could just desolder the rom chip in the psp, get one with the same dimensions, but a bigger amount of ram?

Maybe, but could the psp access it without specific bios modifications?

I think the RAM will be very hard to upgrade. I've never seen the inside of a PSP, but I don't think anyone here would be able to attach a different SMD ram to the circuit board with his hands... But in theory, perhaps.

What would be the point? You could develop software that could take advantage of it, but no one else would be able to use it...

the RAM and ROM are combined on the same chip so you would be unable to.

I remember someone asked about this at QJ, the PSP would not necessarly be able to access the upgraded RAM without a custom firmware.

Not to mention the fact that trying to desolder that tiny, little bad boy would be a finster of a job...

If possible at all without special thousand dollar equiptment. Pretty much all the chips on the board use a BGA form factor (like a computer processor, except instead of having pins it has balls of solder on the bottom of the chip. Generally, very expensive to swap.
